Ben Cohen’s ex-wife Abby has been diagnosed with cancer. The professional photographer, 44, who shares two children with Cohen, shared a video to her Instagram account documenting her experience with cancer, describing it as the “toughest yet”. In the video, Abby is seen walking into a hospital before undergoing different tests. Several clips show her in a hospital bed, wearing a stoma bag while she is surrounded by her loved ones. Writing on Instagram, Abby recalled that she visited a doctor after having experienced only one symptom. She did not specify where the cancer had been found. “This was and is the toughest yet. I’m unlucky, but lucky, to have been warned only once with a symptom of this terrible illness,” wrote Abby in the post’s caption. She thanked the NHS for “saving” her “life” and taking care of her when she was so “scared and most vulnerable”. The photographer urged her followers to “never ignore” their bodies when warning signs present themselves. “I didn’t [ignore them] and it’s given me a chance to live my new life. In time and with the right treatment, I’m hoping this WILL all be a distant memory for me,” she said. Abby and Ben share twin 15-year-old daughters, Harriette and Isabelle. In the video, the children are seen supporting their mother during her time in hospital. Their father Ben, who is a former England Rugby player, and Abby were married for 11 years before they split in 2014. Cohen went on to start a relationship with his Strictly Come Dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff, whom he was partnered up with during his appearance on the show in 2013. Ben and Kristina welcomed a daughter, Mila, in 2016. The photographer went public with her new partner, David, in 2020. Speaking to MailOnline previously, Abby said that she did not want to be known for her past relationship. “I thought, ‘Everyone still labels me Ben’s ex’ but I’m not that Abby any more. I’m me. I’ve got my two girls. My life. I’ve finally met a really nice man. I want to be known as ‘Abby the good photographer’ or ‘Abby the great mum’. I’m very different. I’m stronger,” she said. It’s one of the golden rules of summer: everyone feels better with a tan. Whether your tan is from soaking up the rays or from a bottle, you’ll likely want it to linger as long as possible. Luckily, there are plenty of things you can do – before and after getting a tan – to prolong your glow. Of course, if your tan is from the sun, it’s important to be careful with UV rays. “Sunscreen is your best friend when it comes to safeguarding your skin from harmful UV rays. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 40 or higher and apply it generously to all exposed areas of your body. Reapply every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating,” advises skincare formulator and founder of Skin Masterclass, Cigdem Kemal Yilmaz. “Seek shade during peak hours, typically between 12pm and 3pm, and wear protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses.” Real or fake, how can you make your summer tan last longer? Prep your skin beforehand The golden rule of tanning? “Exfoliate before you tan,” says Rachael Robertson, skincare specialist and founder of Bedew Skin. “This will remove the dead skin cells on the outermost layer of the skin giving you a fresh base to work with. Remember that the skin sheds naturally so if you do this before you tan, those outermost cells will stick around longer and so will your tan.” It’s then important to cleanse and moisturise your skin. Robertson says: “Wash thoroughly with your favourite body wash (look for products that are moisturising as this will help hold your tan) when you jump out [the shower] apply moisturiser to slightly damp skin, paying close attention to the backs of the arms, elbows, feet, knees and hands. “If you usually use a body oil, skip it if you are preparing to tan as this can break it down quicker if it’s fake, and may cause burning if it’s real.” Kimberley Medd, head of clinic at Face the Future, recommends moisturising at least 24 hours before applying fake tan. “Any closer, and you can affect the efficacy of the tan as the moisturiser will act as a skin barrier, meaning your tanning product may find it harder to penetrate the skin,” she says. Yilmaz agrees with the idea of keeping your skin as hydrated as possible post-tan. “Regularly moisturising your body and face helps maintain optimal skin health and prevents dryness, flakiness, and premature ageing,” she says. “I suggest going for moisturisers that contain ingredients like niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which help retain moisture and provide a plump, radiant appearance.” If you have been in the sun, hydration is even more crucial, Yilmaz says: “After a day of sun exposure, treat your skin with a hydrating after-sun lotion with aloe vera and allantoin to sooth the skin and replenish lost moisture.” And if you want to cheat the system a bit, Robertson adds: “A great tip is to top your tan up with a gradual tanning moisturiser each day so you get the benefits of the moisturising ingredients and a sneaky top-up.” Perricone MD High Potency Hyaluronic Intensive Body Therapy, £51 Arran Apothecary Aloe Vera Body Lotion, £14.50 Bondi Sands Skin Illuminator Gradual Tanning Lotion, £13.99 Don’t strip away your tan “To extend the lifespan of your summer tan, keep your skin moisturised using a lightweight, non-greasy lotion,” says Yilmaz. “Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorinated water as it can fade your tan faster.” If you’ve fake tanned, Medd says: “You should wait three to four days after tan application before you exfoliate to avoid the tan becoming patchy or fading. Exfoliating is a key part of keeping an even, buildable tan as you’re able to remove the dead skin cells for reapplication.” Consider your diet Did you know a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water could help prolong your summer glow? “A balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals promotes skin health and radiance,” Yilmaz notes. “I suggest incorporating fruits and vegetables like berries, tomatoes, spinach and kale into your meals, as they contain essential nutrients that protect against sun damage and nourish your skin from within. She continues: “Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Proper hydration not only helps maintain the elasticity of your skin but also aids in detoxification, ensuring a healthy and vibrant complexion. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day, and increase your intake when spending time in the sun.”

An Adidas campaign for Pride 2023 has gained considerable backlash after featuring male-presenting models wearing women’s swimsuits. Now, many people have defended the brand, amidst a wave of anti-trans sentiment towards companies including transgender people in their advertising. The sportswear brand unveiled its new collection for Pride 2023 on 15 May, titled “Let Love Be Your Legacy”. The range of apparel and footwear was designed by queer, South African designer Rich Mnisi, and comes as a collaboration with the non-profit Athlete Ally, which focuses on ending homophobia and transphobia in sports. In a statement, Rich Mnisi said the collection was “a symbol for self-acceptance and LGBTQIA+ advocacy.” On the company’s website, one of the bathing suits from the line – a colourful one-piece swimsuit called the “Pride Swimsuit” that retails for $70 – was being shown off by an apparently male model, though their gender is unknown. The swimsuit was marked under the women’s sportswear section on the website. The campaign photoshoot immediately set the internet ablaze, as many people criticised Adidas for “erasing women” by using a male-presenting model to advertise its female clothing. Former NCAA women’s swim athlete Riley Gaines, who has often been outspoken against trans women competing in sports, tweeted: “I don’t understand why companies are voluntarily doing this to themselves. They could have at least said the suit is ‘unisex’, but they didn’t because it’s about erasing women. Ever wondered why we hardly see this go the other way?” “We women will not be erased!!! In response to the backlash, author Dr Delatorro McNeal appeared on daytime talk show Daily Blast Live to discuss the Adidas Pride campaign. “My concern with all of the bashing and all of the categorising is that we’re not leading with love and we’re not leading with acceptance and inclusion,” he said. “We all want to count, we all want to matter, we all want to be included, and it’s so vitally important. So I believe that, although there’s a fine line between free speech and freedom of expression, I believe at the end of the day if Adidas wants to create this line, let them do it. The brand had also sent her a can of Bud Light with her face on it. The video instantly received backlash from conservative politicians and celebrities, including Kid Rock and Travis Tritt. Others called for a boycott of the beer, and filmed videos of themselves smashing or shooting at cases of Budweiser products. Anheuser-Busch, the producer of Budweiser beers, issued a statement in response to the boycott, saying that they “never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people.” That same month, the actor also faced transphobic backlash for her partnership with Nike. In response, the sportswear brand wrote in the pinned comments of one of its social media posts: “You are an essential component to the success of your community! We welcome comments that contribute to a positive and constructive discussion.
