Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone expertly trolled Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney
Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone expertly trolled Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney
A new trailer dropped yesterday for Sydney Sweeney and Glenn Powell's romantic comedy Anyone But You. Before the trailer, Powell and Sweeney did a jokey introduction where the pair teased each other in true romcom fashion. Then, an unexpected pair decide to recreate the introduction: Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone. Fielder and Stone are starring in A24's The Curse and parodied the rom-com's trailer, with the significant contrast between The Curse and Anyone But You, making it all the more funnier. Whilst Anyone But You follows Powell and Sweeney going to a destination wedding after a single and hating each other. The Curse is about Fielder and Stone who start a problematic HGTV-like show in New Mexico. Immediately social media were loving the quick-turn around from Fielder and Stone. Fielder carried the joke on further, posting a 'statement' to Twitter/X, writing: "I've just been informed that the introductory clip leading into our trailer for The Curse which I posted to social media earlier today has similarities to the trailer introduction for the romcom movie Anyone But You. I want to be very clear - we shot this promo over six months ago, and I am seriously concerned that the marketing team at Sony Pictures somehow saw our promo and copied it." Will Gluck, the director of Anyone But You, then released his own statement: "In today's era of cancel culture, sometimes it's better to just own your mistakes. We did indeed steal the trailer launch idea from The Curse and for that, we deeply apologise to Paramount+, Showtime, Nathan Fielder, and Emma Stone." Ukrainian priest arrested for stealing ancient gold jewellery worth £52m
A priest from Ukraine’s Orthodox Church has been arrested along with four others for stealing £52m of illegally obtained ancient jewellery. The items consisted of 11 gold artefacts, including a belt, earrings and necklaces. They were smuggled out of Ukraine in 2016 and had allegedly been put up for sale in Madrid. The gold is believed to be from the eighth and fourth centuries BC and to be a part of Ukraine’s national heritage. Spanish police on Monday said they had made the arrests in connection with the case and had confiscated all the items. According to authorities, the valuable items went missing from public display between 2009 and 2013 at an undisclosed museum in Kyiv. The pieces were then transported out of Ukraine with the aid of forged documents falsely claiming affiliation with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Spanish law enforcement officers managed to seize an ornate gold belt in 2021, while the remaining artefacts were confiscated in recent weeks after attempts to sell them in the Spanish capital. The police operation involved cooperation from various countries, including Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, North Macedonia and Ukraine. Police said the arrests were made in recent weeks after attempts were allegedly made to sell the valuable items in Madrid. The arrested individuals include two Ukrainians, one of whom is a member of the clergy and three Spaniards. The artefacts are currently undergoing examination by Spain’s National Archaeological Museum and the country’s Cultural Heritage Institute. The Scythians who dominated eastern Europe, including what is present-day Ukraine, were known for their metal work and artefacts and jewellery from the era are among Ukraine’s best-known historical heritage. In a separate incident, Ukrainian authorities recovered 14 archaeological items allegedly stolen from areas occupied by Russia. A Russian man was arrested after attempting to smuggle them into the US. 'Wolves' actually beat 'Spurs' twice at the weekend
'Wolves' actually beat 'Spurs' twice at the weekend
Football fans will likely have enjoyed Wolverhampton Wanderers’ last gasp win over Tottenham Hotspur this weekend - well those that don't support Tottenham – but they weren’t the only Wolves to beat a Spurs team. Wolves were trailing since the third minute of the game, when Brennan Johnson darted in front of Wolves right back Nelson Semedo to score a tap-in and put Spurs in the lead. Then, in the 91st minute, Wolves winger Pablo Sarabia took the ball down brilliantly off an early cross to volley home from eight yards. Mario Lemina completed the comeback in the dying minute of the game, with a scrambled finish from a Sarabia through ball. However, eagle-eyed sports fans noted that Wolves actually did the double over Spurs this weekend, after a basketball match in the US. Minnesota Timberwolves edged out San Antonio Spurs 117 points to 110 in the opening game of an NBA Western Conference in-season tournament. Karl-Anthony Towns was the star player there, to ensure that it was a good weekend for all wolves teams. One X/Twitter user, referencing Tottenham’s World Cup-winning French former goalkeeper who left over the summer, said: “Spurs have got to be regretting sending Hugo Lloris to their NBA side. Can't believe he conceded 117.” The football result boosted Wolves to twelfth in the Premier League table, while Spurs continued their recent downward slide to fourth. Manager Gary O’Neill said of the upset: “It was the most proud I have been of a group I have coached, to produce what they produced against a top side. “I would have been very proud of the group even if the game had finished 1-0 to Tottenham. “I spoke to the boys at half-time, that the scoreline was irrelevant. We were the better side, don’t let the scoreline dictate how you feel. “I try to make the team resemble me but I was never good enough to produce a performance like that. “To be 12 weeks in, we’re ahead of where we expected to be. There was a lot of noise around the place about how much of a struggle it might be but we’ve beaten Man City and Spurs, the top two, early on in the transition. We’re ahead of the curve.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
