Tottenham give Harry Kane permission to fly to Munich to complete Bayern switch
Tottenham have given Harry Kane permission to fly to Germany to complete his proposed move to Bayern Munich. The England captain is set to undergo a medical ahead of a reported £95million switch to the Bundesliga champions. The PA news agency understands reports that Spurs had refused the 30-year-old permission to fly out to Munich are false. But there could still be some small conditions to change in the deal to prise the striker away from the Premier League. Kane is about to enter the final year of his Tottenham contract, meaning he would be free to leave for nothing in 12 months’ time. Chairman Daniel Levy is believed to value the striker closer to £120m, but the risk of the club’s star asset departing for nothing in under a year has underscored negotiations with Bayern. Kane had reportedly been keen to stay in England in order to pursue Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League scoring record of 260. He has scored 213 goals in the top flight since making his Spurs debut in 2012. Kane was the subject of interest from Manchester United earlier in the summer, but they opted instead to target less costly alternatives in a bid to stay within their transfer budget. Spurs supporters sang “we want you to stay” during Sunday’s 5-1 friendly victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, new manager Ange Postecoglou’s first home game in charge. The north Londoners begin their Premier League campaign away to Brentford on Sunday. Tom Cruise and Shakira dating rumours are jokingly being compared to football transfer news
There could be a new celebrity power couple in Hollywood, after reports emerged that Tom Cruise and Shakira are dating. However, some of the language used on social media has raised a few eyebrows – with some suggesting the speculation reads more like transfer rumours than your standard showbiz fare. It comes after reports surfaced that Cruise was “extremely interested in pursuing” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer after the two were photographed together at the 2023 Formula One Grand Prix in Miami over the weekend. “He is extremely interested in pursuing her. There is chemistry,” a source told Page Six on 9 May. “Shakira needs a soft pillow to fall on, and that could be Tom,” they added, referencing the singer’s split from Gerard Pique. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Football journalist Nooruddean Choudry joked about some of the coverage, and questioned whether the headline had been written by transfer story specialist Fabrizio Romano. The post included a screenshot of a headline that read: “Tom Cruise is ‘extremely interested in pursuing Shakira.” Others replied with football transfer cliches of their own, with one writing: “Cruise eyes Shakira swoop.” “He’s monitoring the situation closely,” another said. “3 year contract, plus the option for one more year! Shakira is ‘excited about the Tom Cruise project’” another joked. One more social media user wrote: “Won’t believe it till she’s holding the shirt.” It comes after Cruise was up in the skies for his coronation concert cameo recently, which looked awfully similar to his MTV Movie & TV award acceptance speech. While airborne and flying his Top Gun Warbird plane, the 60-year-old 'Top Gun' actor invited King Charles III to be his "wingman," in his pre-recorded video message for the new monarch. “Pilot to pilot. Your Majesty, you can be my wingman any time," Cruise said before he saluted and flew off. Have your say in our news democracy. The Planet 9 theory is making scientists question the rules of our existence
The Planet 9 theory is making scientists question the rules of our existence
In space, discoveries continue to be made that challenge scientific beliefs, as distant objects reveal the solar system is much bigger than first thought and the observation was previously made that a part of the sun is broken. Now, there is evidence to suggest the existence of a ninth undiscovered planet that is at the very edge of the solar system and could point towards evidence that our understanding of gravity is wrong. The discovery was made by two scientists who studied the effects that the Milky Way galaxy had on objects in the solar system’s outer edge. Galaxies are able to rotate extremely fast without any of their contents escaping, and most experts believe that the existence of dark matter might explain why. Dark matter is invisible and does not emit, nor reflect light, and it is hypothesized that galaxies are surrounded by dark matter rings that bind the galaxies together in their own gravitation pull and stop them from emitting material. But now, the gravitational theory of Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) may suggest that dark matter is not why galaxies stay intact despite staggering rotational speeds. Instead, some believe that under the rotational velocities experienced by galaxies, a new kind of gravitational behaviour occurs. Case Western Reverse scientist Harsh Mathur, explained: “MOND is really good at explaining galactic-scale observations, but I hadn’t expected that it would have noticeable effects on the outer solar system.” Planet 9 comes into play because objects in the Kuiper belt (the disk that surrounds the outer edges of the solar system) were observed clustering and exhibiting orbital anomalies that do not occur with other objects in the belt. Experts believe this may be due to the presence of an undiscovered ninth planet, as this is a phenomenon that occurred before with the discovery of new planets as their gravitation pull attracts other solar system objects. Katherine Brown, Hamilton College professor of physics, said: “We wanted to see if the data that support the Planet Nine hypothesis would effectively rule out MOND.” Their study revealed that the hypothesis could be correct and could point towards the existence of Planet 9, but they urged that their dataset was very small, so no definitive conclusions could be made. Brown explained: “Regardless of the outcome, this work highlights the potential for the outer solar system to serve as a laboratory for testing gravity and studying fundamental problems of physics.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
