Was a student expelled for doing the 'Ceiling Challenge' on TikTok?
A university student was allegedly expelled after taking part in the now viral “Ceiling Challenge” on TikTok. TikTok has become a platform known for its ever-changing viral trends that capture the imagination of its mostly Gen Z users, with recent trends including the Beckham dance test and the girlfriend affect trend. The “Ceiling Challenge” is the latest trend to take over the platform and it may have even got one student expelled from university for taking part in it. What is the viral “Ceiling Challenge” on TikTok? The viral ceiling challenge involves TikTokers taping their mobile phone to a ceiling and filming themselves alone, or with their friends, dancing from a bird’s eye view. The challenge is set to the song “Surround Sound” by the American rapper and singer J.I.D. One of the earliest instances was a video shared by TikToker @michaelfirshort on 6 October which has been viewed 3.6 million times. @michaelfirshort #LearnItOnTikTok #CapCut #phoneonceiling #funny #foryoupage #teacherday #fypシ゚viral Since then, the challenge has gone viral with hundreds of videos of other people emulating it, including one filmed by some rowdy retirement home residents. @retirementhouse GANGGGG But, while the challenge may seem like a harmless bit of fun, one university student in Nigeria was allegedly expelled from the institution for doing the challenge. The student was reportedly attending Madonna University in Okija, Nigeria when a video of her twerking to the song went viral and led to her expulsion when university staff saw it. indy100 has contacted Madonna University for comment. Heartwarming moment Ange Postecoglou makes times for young fan at Spurs Q&A
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou shared a heartwarming moment with a young fan at a club Q&A ahead of this weekend's North London Derby against Arsenal. The Australian who was named Premier League Manager of the Month following his impressive start to life at Spurs made sure that young fan Owen, who has Down Syndrome, got the final question during the session. MC Nihal Arthanayake was about to bring the Q&A to an end but Postecoglou cut him off to point out Owen. The manager said: "Hang on, one more question down the front. He's got the best question." Owen asked Postecoglou "How much are you going to win, Ange, this season?" The youngster received a huge round of applause from those in attendance for his question. Postecoglou then replied by saying: "In terms of this weekend], we will do our best, everyone involved at the football club..... we understand what this team means to you all. Our role is to try and make you happy and proud.. and that is what we will try and do." The 58-year-old Aussie coach even made time for Owen once the Q&A was over posing for photos with the young man, who also got to meet Spurs captain Son Heung-Min and the club's owner Daniel Levy. Postecoglou has been widely praised for the gesture with many fans, even those from opposing clubs, calling him a "top bloke" and the "most likable man on the planet," Tottenham have enjoyed a very good start to the season under their new coach achieving wins over Sheffield United, Burnley, Bournemouth, Manchester United and a draw with Brentford. Postecoglou's likable personality has also seen him win over the music world, with Robbie Williams recently rerecording his famous 'Angels' song in honour of the Australian. What is the viral 'pints, chit chat and good people' TikTok that is getting roasted?
We've all seen that pub TikTok now. You know what I'm talking about. The one featuring the guys with mullets and moustaches, a pint of Guinness, and definitely very candid moments caught on camera. The video was filmed and posted by Max Lepage-Keefe, outside The Blue Posts in Soho, with Dusty Springfield's 'Spooky', playing in the background. The text overlay reads "Pints, chit chat and good people >". What could have simply been an innocent, albeit staged, TikTok of friends at the pub, has managed to rile up most of the UK. Comments under the TikTok include: "One of the hardest watches this year", "Rah bro ignore my iPhone 15 pro max propped on the ledge bro we're having a pint", "it's the look at the camera while he's laughing for me." While many have been making parody videos of the clip. @maxlepagekeefe Grateful for the friends I have But what does Max think about the backlash? Speaking to The Tab, Max said "I've had people commenting saying that I've got a trust fund. I wish I did. I'm not a Tory, I work two jobs... I didn't say a word in this video and it's rattled so many people. I love the pub and I like dressing how I want to dress. So, just combine the two with a pint and it's all right!" Max also pushed back on claims that the video was all pretend and that he and his friends kept glancing into the camera. "One of my other friends was already filming so I thought I may as well set up my phone too," he said. "You feel it's there for maybe the first 30 seconds... I was filming for about 10 minutes altogether. Then I just edited it down." "I think it is a toxic masculinity thing," Max said of the internet hating on him and his friends. "If one singular video with no words said annoys you that much it's pretty sad... Everyone's got an opinion and they're free to say what they want to say... It's spurring me on." For VICE, Eloise Hendy spoke to Dr Niki Cheong, a lecturer in Digital Culture and Society at King's College London about the video to find out why the Internet had the reaction it did towards the video. "The reaction to this video, particularly the negative aspects, are commonplace now on social media: Everyone has an opinion and they want to share it," she said. "I think influencers are an easy target for online attacks and mockery because they generally function on the basis of authenticity, when so much of their content is staged."
