Federal prosecutors under supervision of Special Counsel Jack Smith have reportedly spoken with top election officials in Pennsylvania and New Mexico as part of the Justice Department probe into Donald Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election. According to CNN, Mr Smith’s team has in recent months conducted interviews of Pennsylvania Secretary of State Al Schmidt and New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver, with both officials providing information on “matters related to the 2020 election”. Mr Schmidt, who spoke with prosecutors in March, is a Republican who served as a Philadelphia City Commissioner during the 2020 election. He was named to his current post by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. CNN reported that prosecutors questioned Mr Schmidt about issues he encountered during the post-election period in 2020, including how he was impacted by misinformation about alleged voter fraud spread by Mr Trump and his allies. Last June, he told the now-defunct House January 6 select committee that he became the target of a slew of death threats from the then-president’s supporters after Mr Trump began attacking him in a series of tweets “became much more specific, much more graphic” after the then-president called him a “RINO” and a “disaster on the massive election fraud and irregularities which took place in Philadelphia”. The special counsel’s team has been speaking with election officials in swing states won by President Joe Biden in his 2020 contest with Mr Trump as part of their probe into the twice-impeached, now twice-indicted ex-president’s effort to remain in office against the will of voters. CNN also reported that Mr Smith’s team has sent subpoenas to officials in all seven of the states — Georgia, New Mexico, Nevada, Michigan, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — that were targeted by Mr Trump as he sought to reverse his losses to Mr Biden in each jurisdiction. Mr Smith and his team has also met with the top election officials from Michigan and Georgia, Jocelyn Benson and Brad Raffensperger. In an interview with the network, Ms Benson said prosecutors she spoke to appeared to be focused on how misinformation spread by Mr Trump’s allies affected election workers, as well as the “threats that emerged from that from various sources”. The penis-enhancing drug 'Big Penis USA' has been banned in Australia after a health watchdog said they pose a "serious risk". The country’s Therapeutic Goods Administration has urged people to stop taking the drug, after finding they contained sildenafil which is prescription only. The substance found in erectile dysfunction medication "may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease are often prescribed nitrates." When consumed alongside other medications, the pills could cause "serious side effects". "Big Penis USA tablets pose a serious risk to your health and should not be taken," the TGA said in a statement on their site. They encouraged people to take any remaining pills to a local pharmacy to ensure they are disposed of safely. "The TGA will notify ABF to seize and destroy any of these products intercepted at the border," they wrote. This isn't the first time a warning has been issued about Big Penis USA. An FDA warning stated: "This notification is to inform the public of products marketed as dietary supplements or conventional foods with hidden drug ingredients and chemicals." "These products are typically promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and body building and are often represented as being ‘all natural,'" they continued. "FDA is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements that have potentially harmful hidden ingredients. Consumers should exercise caution before purchasing any product in the above categories." If you suspect any side effects to the product, the TGA has urged people to report them. Max Verstappen has been crowned champion of the world after he finished second to Oscar Piastri in Saturday’s chaotic sprint round in Qatar. The 26-year-old Dutchman has emulated Sir Jackie Stewart and Ayrton Senna by wrapping up his third title with six grands prix still remaining – equalling Michael Schumacher’s 21-year-old record. Red Bull’s Verstappen has dominated Formula One since he beat seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to clinch his maiden title at the deeply controversial season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021. And the 26-year-old’s runner-up finish, coupled with Sergio Perez’s failure to finish in the top three – he crashed out with eight laps remaining – was enough to seal the deal under the floodlights of the Lusail International Circuit. Verstappen’s championship parade will start at Sunday’s 57-lap Grand Prix in Qatar. Lando Norris finished third for McLaren, one place ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell, with Lewis Hamilton fifth. “Max, you are a three-time world champion,” roared Red Bull’s jubilant team principal Christian Horner over the radio. “That is unbelievable. In came the safety car at the end of the second lap, and Russell, on the speedier, but less durable soft tyres, made his move on the medium-shod pole-sitter Piastri to assume the lead. Then, the error-prone Logan Sargeant put his Williams in the gravel. The safety car was deployed again as the American’s stricken machine was cleared from danger. The safety car pulled in at the end of lap five and Russell raced away from Piastri as Verstappen – on the slower, but more durable, medium rubber – set about his comeback. First to be swatted aside was Ferrari’s Leclerc on the main straight on lap nine, with Sainz the Dutchman’s next victim on the following lap. The race was starting to come back to those on the medium tyres, and Piastri roared past Russell to reclaim the lead at the start of lap 11. And then the championship was officially over when Perez’s race ended in the gravel at Turn 2. Esteban Ocon attempted to overtake Nico Hulkenberg on the inside of the second corner, and with Perez to the right of the Haas driver, Ocon lost control of his Alpine and took Perez with him. It summed up Perez’s woefully disappointing campaign. The safety car was deployed for a third time before a five-lap blast to the flag. On lap 16, Verstappen eased past Russell with Piastri 2.6 sec up the road. However, the McLaren man could not be caught. But Verstappen, who needed to finish only sixth to be sure of the title, need not worry as he celebrated becoming just the 11th driver to win the world championship on more than two occasions. Fans of The Simpsons have been left baffled by the revelation that the creator Matt Groening named the characters after his real-life relatives. Groening is an American cartoonist who famously created the iconic TV series in 1989, which follows the antics of the Simpson family – husband and wife, Homer and Marge, and their three children, Bart, Lisa and Maggie – and other residents of Springfield. The long-running show is much-loved by a loyal fanbase, but it appears some have only just realised Groening’s inspiration for the famous yellow characters came from very close to home. On X/Twitter, one fan seemed to stumble upon the revelation when having a browse on Groening’s Wikipedia page. The page revealed that Groening’s younger sisters are named Lisa and Maggie, his mother is named Margaret (aka Marge) and his father’s name is Homer. Groening also has an older sister named Patty – the same name as one of Marge’s twin sisters in the show. They wrote: “Can't believe I never knew the names of Matt Groening's family members.” One fan commented on the fact Groening appears to have another older brother named Mark, writing: “Looking this over again, Mark got kind of screwed on the deal.” Another asked: “Matt Groening's self-insert was Bart???” Season 35 of The Simpsons is expected to air on 1 October 2023.
