How to watch Japan vs Sweden: TV channel and start time for Women’s World Cup fixture
In-form Japan face their biggest test of their Women’s World Cup campaign yet as they take on Sweden in the quarter-finals. Japan have been the standout team of the tournament so far in Australia and New Zealand, thrashing Spain 4-0 in the group stages, and progressed to the quarter-finals after a 3-1 win over Norway in the last-16. The 2011 World Cup champions are the tournament’s top scorers so far, with striker Hinata Miyazawa leading the golden boot standings with five goals from four games, as Japan have emerged as one of the favourites for the title. Women’s World Cup LIVE: Spain vs Netherlands updates as quarter-finals begin But Sweden offer a true test of those ambitions, after the Olympic silver medalists knocked out the defending champions United States on penalties in the last-16. After a 0-0 draw against the USA, Sweden progressed in dramatic fashion after Lina Hurtig’s penalty was ruled to have crossed the line by an inch. Here’s everything you need to know. When is Japan vs Sweden? The match takes place on Friday 11 August in Auckland, New Zealand. Kick-off is at 8:30am UK time (BST). What TV channel is it on? The quarter-final will be shown live on BBC One, with coverage starting from 8:00am BST. What is the team news? Japan and Sweden have been among the most consistent sides at the World Cup so far and could name unchanged line-ups for the quarter-final. A possible change for Japan manager Futoshi Ikeda is restoring Riko Ueki to the attack, but the front three of top scorer Miyazawa, Mina Tanaka and Aoba Fujino is looking hard to disrupt. Sweden are also looking settled but will need to be more adventurous against Japan, after Zecira Musovic’s heroics saved their World Cup hopes against the USA. How did both teams reach the quarter-finals? Japan (Winners Group C) 5-0 vs Zambia 2-0 vs Costa Rica 4-0 vs Spain 3-1 vs Norway Sweden (Winners Group G) 2-1 vs South Africa 5-0 vs Italy 2-0 vs Argentina 0-0 vs United States (Won 5-4 on penalties) Read More Women’s World Cup TV schedule: How to watch every match today Women’s World Cup golden boot: Who’s leading the top-scorer standings? Amanda Holden’s most extravagant fashion from the BGT live shows
Amanda Holden has kicked off the first round of Britain’s Got Talent live shows in eye-catching style. The TV judge and radio host is known for her colourful and daring fashion choices – and she’s been pulling out all the stops for the semi-finals of the popular talent show. Holden, 52, wowed in a bright yellow latex ensemble for the first live show. The outfit – by Atsuko Kudo Couture Latex Design – was made up of a corset top and matching skirt with a long train. The Plain Paris Cup Bustier Corset retails at £654.17, and the skirt costs £329.17. For the second night’s look, Holden tapped into the ever-popular trend for ‘nearly naked’ dresses. The strapless, semi-sheer dress had delicate floral embroidery and a dramatic leg slit. It was by Vietnamese designer Tran Hung, a brand with a romantic take on eveningwear. Hung’s designs have previously been worn by Bridgerton actor Nicola Coughlan, Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri. Holden tends to prefer long gowns for her TV appearances, but she’ll occasionally experiment with a mini. This silver leopard print dress with a halterneck was by celebrity-favourite designer Miss Sohee – known for her dramatic gowns, one of her custom designs was recently worn by actor Halle Bailey at The Little Mermaid premiere in London. Holden accessorised the look with on-trend platform heels – D’Accori’s Satin Platform Pumps, retailing at £950 from Harrods. For the most recent live show, Holden chose an experimental white two-piece. The top was a bespoke moulded bustier with a rippling effect by Cameron Hancock, paired with a strappy white column skirt from Monot – a cult brand known for its ultra-sexy cut-out designs. Holden gave the look a Grecian vibe, with chunky gold jewellery and a slicked-back topknot. Senator Dianne Feinstein briefly hospitalised after fall
Senator Dianne Feinstein was briefly hospitalised on Tuesday after suffering what a spokeperson said was a “minor fall” in her California home. The fall, first reported by TMZ, is just the latest incident in a climbing number of health-related issues that have troubled the 90-year-old Feinstein in recent months and is likely to contribute to growing concerns about her ability to serve. The senior California lawmaker only recently returned to Congress after an extended absence due to illness; that departure left Democrats unable to subpoena members of the Supreme Court for a spring hearing about ethics in the nation’s highest judicial authority — though it’s unclear whether she and others on the panel had the stomach for such a move to begin with. “Senator Feinstein briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall in her home. All of her scans were clear and she returned home,” a spokesperson told the San Francisco Chronicle. Ms Feinstein is set to retire at the end of her term next year. Her succession has sparked a major primary fight in the state of California, with three prominent members of California’s congressional delegation all vying for the job. Her staff, meanwhile, remains adamant that the aging senator remains active and completely able to perform her duties as senator. Those assertions have brushed up sharply against reports in the media of her frequent bouts of confusion throughout the halls of Congress, including numerous instances where she has been heard asking aides where they are guiding her and a recent episode during a committee hearing when the senator began calling for a vote that was already underway. Defenders of the Democratic veteran have claimed that criticisms of her performance and reports of her bouts of confusion are rooted in sexism, arguing that the same concerns are not applied equally to male politicians of similar ages. To be clear, those criticisms are far from only centred around Ms Feinstein; they recently were vocalised in regards to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell by Republicans like Nikki Haley after the former appeared to freeze and become unable to speak at a press conference, before being led away by a colleague. The latest news about Ms Feinstein comes only a week after it was revealed in a news report that she has ceded power of attorney to her daughter.
