'Gotto get that damage control': Ice Spice and Taylor Swift's collab slammed after singer's BF Matty Healy made racist remarks about rapper

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ice Spice's collaboration with Taylor Swift on the upcoming track 'Karma' has faced criticism. This comes after a video resurfaced, where Taylor Swift's rumored boyfriend, Matty Healy, was seen making offensive comments about Ice Spice. The news of Taylor Swift and Ice Spice joining forces for the track 'Karma' on the singer's upcoming deluxe album, 'Midnights (Til Dawn Edition),' set to be released on Friday, May 26, sent both their fans off the roof.

However, diligent internet users discovered a podcast episode where Matty Healy, guitarist for the band 1975, made offensive comments about Ice Spice. The controversial remarks were made during an appearance on 'The Adam Friedland Show' in February. The discussion turned to Ice Spice after Matty Healy admitted to trying to contact her via direct messages, and the cohosts, Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen, made derogatory remarks about the rapper from the Bronx, New York.

Ice Spice's collaboration with Taylor Swift sparks controversey

During the podcast, one of the hosts joked, "This chubby Chinese lady. 'Yeah, I rap and [make] music.' Do they talk like that? Do Inuits talk like that?" To this, Matty Healy responded, "Yeah, that’s what Ice Spice is like." After the clip became viral, Matty Healy publicly apologized for his offensive comments directed at Ice Spice during a show in April. Nevertheless, the incident has already caused damage to Ice Spice's reputation.

Despite rumors of the collaboration between Ice Spice and Taylor Swift circulating earlier this month, Taylor officially announced the collaboration on Wednesday, May 24. Taylor Swift captioned her post, which features what appears to be the single's cover art, with the words, "Um. SO much to tell you... I’m a massive fan of this brilliant artist and after getting to know her I can confirm: she is THE ONE to watch. So delighted to say that 'Karma' featuring the incredible @icespice will be out TOMORROW night at MIDNIGHT ET as a part of the new 'Midnights (Til Dawn Edition)' deluxe album that you can pre-order now at store.taylorswift.com!"

She further added, "In addition to 'Karma' featuring Ice Spice... You asked for it, we listened: Lana and I went back into the studio specifically to record more Lana on 'Snow on the Beach.' Love u @honeymoon... But wait, there’s more... for those of you going to the East Rutherford shows - we will have a new special edition CD available ONLY on site starting at 12:30 pm ET on Friday! This CD will have a never before heard Midnights vault track called 'You’re Losing Me'!"

'VERY SUSPICIOUS!'

Internet users were not thrilled with the collab. One user tweeted, "Not Taylor Swift teaming up with Ice Spice for a collab gotta get that damage control in for Matty Healy." Another added, "Very interesting to see Taylor Swift announce a collaboration with Ice Spice as if her boyfriend, Matty Healy, didn't just mock her appearance calling her a "chubby Chinese lady" Grab whoever can gain the clout but still associate with horrible people, huh?" A third claimed, "matty healy being racist towards ice spice and then taylor swift dating the racist in question and now the two women are doing a collab… i fully hate this timeline." A fourth tweeted, "Taylor Swift trying to distract from the Matty Healy rumors by collabing with Ice Spice:" "Fun fact: in her entire career of more than 15 years she never ever collaborated with a female rapper and just by now all of a sudden she does with someone that doesn’t even have 1 year of career in the music industry!!! VERY SUSPICIOUS," read a tweet.
