NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Faced with a substantial legislative hurdle as House Speaker, Mike Johnson announced that his two-tiered continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government would be his last effort.

In an appearance on ‘Fox & Friends’ before the crucial Tuesday vote, Johnson expressed his disdain for continuing resolutions, signaling a commitment to finding alternative approaches in the future.

He reportedly justified the efforts to pass a two-step funding package to prevent a government shutdown but pledged that a continuing resolution (CR) would not be pursued again.

However, the internet did not align with Johnson's statement, with many expressing opposition to his views.

Mike Johnson shares hatred for ‘continuing resolution’ on ‘Fox & Friends’

Recently elected House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged to cease the two-tiered continuing resolution for government funding during his interview on 'Fox & Friends.'

Johnson stated, “We're doing something very different here by breaking it up and doing the ladder CR. We have a different process. It wasn't Kevin's fault, in my estimation. What happened before circumstances were different than they are right now.”

He continued, “By doing this, we actually allow ourselves to do our job and fight for our conservative principles. Some of the people you name are some of my closest friends. I understand it. I hate CRs. We shouldn't do this, and we're not going to do it again next year."

"We're going to get back to the actual lawful appropriations process that the American people deserve. But this is a necessary step to bridge that gap to get us there and prevent a government shutdown,” he added.

As the deadline for funding the federal government approaches on November 17, House Speaker Mike Johnson is reliant on support from House Democrats to pass his plan and avert a government shutdown.

Johnson's proposal, a short-term government funding extension or continuing resolution (CR), was unveiled on Saturday.

However, the absence of spending cuts in the plan is causing division within the House GOP, potentially reviving internal disagreements.

This situation puts Republicans in the position of deciding between aligning with GOP hardliners or collaborating with Democrats to ensure government funding and avoid a shutdown.

Internet disagrees with Mike Johnson’s discontinuance of CR

Following Mike Johnson's commitment to end the use of continuing resolutions for government funding, the internet strongly disagreed with the House Speaker's stance.

One person wrote, “I’d say shut down the government. We would all be far better off. It’s so corrupt!”

Another person said, “As usual, the GOP giving away the farm for nothing. Don't be cowards. Shut it down.”

An X user called out Johson saying, “@SpeakerJohnson is a democrat sellout,” and another simply wrote, “Rino.”

One more user opposed Johnson by stating, “The government should be shut down.” Another said, “If it’s a bad idea for next time, it’s a bad idea now. MAKE THE CUTS!!”
