Need to make a fire to cook or stay warm in DayZ? Here's what you need to know.
DayZ can be a particularly brutal survival sim. Stranded in a huge, post-apocalyptic open world, a player's main goal is to survive for as long as possible. The problem is that resources are scarce, food, drink, temperature and sickness all need to be managed, and the biggest threat of all — other players — could be friend or deadly foe.
Crafting plays an important role in DayZ, though knowing how to craft specific items can be difficult. One necessary craft to nail down is making fire.
How to Craft a Fireplace in DayZ
A Fireplace Kit is small, useful structure to build that allows players to warm their wet clothes, cook food, and more. There are a few items you can use and combine to make a basic Fireplace. You'll need the following:
- Kindling (Light Bark, Oak Bark, Paper, Rags, or Bandages)
- Fuel (Short Sticks, made by snapping Long Sticks, or Firewood)
- Ignition (Matches, Flare, Lighter, or Hand Drill Kit)
Once you've got at least one of each of the three items, you'll be able to crouch down with the kindling and fuel combined in your hands and place the Fireplace on the ground. You can then light it holding and using the ignition next to the Fireplace.
You can add more fuel to the fire by adding more Short Sticks or Firewood. Players can add a Stone Ring and Cooking Tripod to the Fireplace to enable cooking.
You can also apply the same items to make use of the red heating stoves found in most houses.
