'I'm still human': Jeopardy!’s Mayim Bialik gets candid about feeling 'worthless' after backlash from game show fans

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It is no secret that Mayim Bialik did not really have the best time as the co-host for 'Jeopardy!'. With every episode, there was a new wave of game show viewers expressing their disapproval of the presenter and severe criticism of her hosting abilities.

The 47-year-old host has recently spoken up on how difficult it is for her not to be impacted by what individuals think of her. In answer to a listener's query, Bialik discussed her feelings about struggling to find optimism on her podcast, 'Breakdown'.

'I'm still a human'

A fan named, Sadie, sent a question during the 'Ask Mayim Anything' segment. The question was, "What do you do when you feel useless, irrelevant, and worthless or do you not ever feel that way?" Bialik said, "Great question - I do feel that way and it's kind of a hard question to answer because, obviously, from where I'm sitting, I have a platform and I get to talk to people."

"I am grateful that I have the opportunity to be here," Bialik started, "I'm still a human and I often feel like what I'm doing is not what I'm supposed to be doing or I'm not doing it well enough or I'm not reaching enough people or I'm not doing it right or I look stupid you know like just name the thing and I think it."

She went on to reflect on positive affirmations as a tool to overcome this feeling of low self-esteem. She said, "Some people like to surround themselves with people who will not make them feel useless, but because I'm an actor person i grew up in a world where everyone was like, 'You're amazing,' so it's hard for me sometimes to believe people."

Bialik explained, "Cognitive behavioral therapy would have you do this if you keep telling yourself like you're not useless you're amazing for some people that actually will kind of train their brain into feeling more at ease with that."

'I need to try and meditate or have quiet time'

Bialik then revealed her own ways of coping with the issues of low self-esteem. "I need to move my body I need to try and meditate or have quiet time," she said, "I need to try and eat things that are healthy for me, and generally speaking those things start to tip the scales a little bit." She suggested to her listeners that if they continue to feel worthless for an extended period of time, "that would really be a time to get professional help."

Bialik takes a hiatus from 'Jeopardy!'

Since the beginning of the year, Bialik has come under fire for the way she hosts 'Jeopardy!' Fans have been very critical of her abilities, which are notably different from those of the former full-time host Ken Jennings. The game show's audience asked that Jennings make a full comeback and that Bialik be fired from the program. Due to the ongoing WGA strike, Bialik is now taking a hiatus from hosting 'Jeopardy!' while Jennings has returned to the show as a full-time host.
