Internet tells Tory Lanez to 'stay and reflect' after rapper's motion to be released from prison is rejected

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tory Lanez, the Canadian musician born as, Daystar Peterson, faced another setback in his legal battle as the California Court of Appeal recently denied his motion to be released on bond while he appealed his conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

The decision, which keeps Lanez behind bars, has garnered strong support from the internet.

Why is Tory Lanez behind the bars?

Lanez's legal woes began when he was convicted last December for shooting singer Megan Thee Stallion in both feet during an alcohol-fueled confrontation on July 12, 2020.

Throughout the trial, Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, attempted to shift blame onto Megan's friend and assistant, Kelsey Harris, but the jury remained unconvinced.

During the trial, Megan gave harrowing testimony, detailing the traumatic shooting incident and the harassment she endured from Lanez and his fans in the aftermath.

The trial was a two-week ordeal, featuring compelling testimonies, including that of Harris, who was present in the SUV on the morning of the shooting.

She gave a vivid, 80-minute recorded statement to prosecutors in September 2022, recounting how Lanez fired five shots, leaving Megan wounded on the ground.

The Los Angeles jury deliberated for seven hours and ultimately convicted Lanez on all three counts, assaulting Megan with a semi-automatic firearm, causing great bodily injury, discharging the weapon with gross negligence, and possessing a concealed, unregistered weapon inside his SUV.

Tory Lanez's appeal denied as internet applauds justice

Lanez's conviction marked a significant turning point in a case that had garnered widespread attention.

Megan, a rising star in the music industry at the time, had to endure not only a traumatic event but also the public scrutiny and victim-blaming that often accompanies high-profile cases.

In his latest attempt to secure his release on bond, Lanez and his legal team argued that he posed no danger to the community and "merely wishes to support his family," while awaiting the outcome of his appeal. However, the California Court of Appeal disagreed.

Justice Lee Smalley Edmon, presiding judge of the 2nd District, highlighted Lanez's Canadian citizenship, previous modifications to his bail conditions during prosecution, and the fact that he was convicted of a violent felony.

The judge also pointed out that the new legislation cited by Lanez in his motion was not yet signed into law, rendering it inapplicable to his case.

As Lanez continues to serve his 10-year sentence at North Kern State Prison, the internet rallied behind the court's decision, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.

A user tweeted, "You ain't going anywhere bro, you stay there and reflect." Another simply stated, "Justice."

While one user said, "ANOTHER APPEAL REJECTED THANK YOU," another added, "Awww… well don’t do the crime."

"Play stupid games win stupid prizes," wrote a user.
