LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Apple TV+'s upcoming series ‘Hijack’ promises a nerve-wracking experience. The seven-episode miniseries stars Idris Elba, who never fails to enchant us whether he plays the enigmatic John Luther or takes on a blockbuster superhero role.

The show revolves around Sam Nelson (played by Elba), a successful business negotiator who finds himself distanced from his family. Many fans are curious whether ‘Hijack’ is based on a true story. While the story revolves around a hijacked plane flying from Dubai to London and the efforts of authorities on the ground and passengers in the air, it is not directly based on a specific real-life event. Idris Elba, who plays the lead, also served as the executive producer. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he revealed how he “wanted to make something that has an impact as an actor obviously, but also as a producer in terms of what my taste is,” adding 'Hijack' "really ticked so many boxes.” He continued, “It takes a fresh approach to a thriller and hostage situation. There’s an amplified nature of having a ticking time bomb in a plane and what that does to human nature…It is also an examination of the procedures and attitudes [within the government and law enforcement in response to a hijacking situation], and that becomes a focal point of the storytelling.”
'Hijack' is set to air on June 28, 2023 on Apple TV+.
