John Goodman says he got ‘lazy’ with exercising during Covid pandemic: 'Let everything go’

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Goodman, who surprised the world after shedding 200 pounds years ago, shared that the Covid-19 pandemic made him ‘lazy’ and he ‘let everything go’ during that time. In a recent interview, ‘The Big Lebowski’ star said, “I’ve just let everything go just because I haven’t had the energy. That was just getting out and walking the dogs.”

He adds, “I was boxing up until [the pandemic] and I haven’t been able to do that since Covid because I’m lazy.” Talking more about his boxing skills, the comedian explained, “Nobody’s going to get hurt, but it’s just hitting the mitts and trying to learn. … I never got good enough where I would trust myself to spar because once I get whacked in the face, I don’t know if I wouldn’t lose it.” The 70-year-old was seen at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Television Festival in Monaco where he looked fantastic in his pair of beige trousers and a white dress shirt. Goodman was jury president at the event and flaunted his transformed body.

'In the old days...'

“John Goodman is quite frankly a legend. My grandson loves him, my mother loves him and I love him. He’s crossed several generations with a phenomenal film career, and a phenomenal television career. He’s done it all, played every role. If he wasn’t leading the jury, we’d give him our lifetime achievement award, praised festival organizer Laurent Puons.

‘The Connors’ star went into a rigorous workout regime in 2007 when he weighed 400 pounds, “In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits,” he told ABC in 2017. “This time, I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.”

'He can take on athletic parts'

In 2010, Goodman told People, “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next. I wanted to live life better,” he added.

His former fitness coach Mackie Shilstone talked about the star's motivation, “He remembers what it feels like to be extremely heavy and it’s something he doesn’t want again. John is very agile. When I see him running I get out of the way! He can be a different type of actor now. He can take on athletic parts,” as per PageSix report.
