‘Lazy’ Lana Del Rey labeled unprofessional for arriving late at Glastonbury Festival: ‘It's so rude’

LONDON, ENGLAND: Lana Del Rey had an 'oops' moment when the organizers of the Glastonbury Festival cut the power supply off of her microphone after she showed up late for her set. The 38-year-old singer was originally slated to appear on stage on 24 June at 10.30 pm and perform till 11.45 pm. But the ‘Cinnamon Girl’ singer did not turn up until 11 pm, saying that styling her hair took time, causing her to be late.

After taking the Other Stage at 11 pm, she started her set and continued to explain her reason for getting late. She also promised her fans she would continue even if the power supply is discontinued. Glastonbury has a policy forbidding the playing of music past midnight and, because of starting the set late, Del Rey was bound to go past midnight. However, as the midnight curfew started, the ‘Sad Girl’ crooner was cut off in the middle of the performance.

As she was interrupted mid-performance, her fans joined her in singing her famous hit ‘Video Games’. After she was left without a microphone, without losing her spirit, the ‘Born to Die’ singer got off the stage to perform a singalong with her fans. They sang ‘Summertime Sadness’ and she signed autographs. However, woes followed as she was then escorted out of the arena by her security.

'If they cut power, they cut power'

As she came late to the show, she addressed the eager crowd saying that she will continue even if the organizers disconnect the power supply to her microphone. The ‘Young and Beautiful’ singer declared to the crowd, “I was so f**king late that I am about to rush this set today, if they cut power, they cut power.” She continued sharing the reason for her getting late, “I'm super f**king sorry, my hair takes so long to do. I love you to death. Let's keep on running this set as it's supposed to go, let's do it!” Quite interestingly, she cited her hair to be the cause for her getting late. The ‘Doin’ Time’ singer was accompanied by her hairstylist on stage who came prepared with a comb and other hair accessories to change her initial pinned updo hairstyle to a cascading flow of her brunette mane over her shoulders.

While the power supply to her microphone was cut off, ‘Guns N' Roses’, who were performing at the Pyramid Stage, continued to do so with an uninterrupted power supply.

'Stop showing up late'

With the news breaking of Lana Del Rey's set being cut short, the internet had a lot to say. While the Lana Del Rey stans hailed their queen for organizing a singalong and carrying it out successfully, there were many dissenters who were not so happy with the singer being late to the festival. One fan gave the moniker, "Lazy del rey. She was late," to mark the occasion. Another blamed her for denying her fans a lifetime experience, saying, "So the fans miss out on her best fan because she's a slob. Cool." Someone else also lashed out at her, saying, "Stop showing up late, y’all on fan time not your own time."

Other fans also seemed to support the decision as one said, "They should start doing this to all artists that show up late." Another Lana Del Rey stan also said that even though they love the singer, what she did was not respectful to fans, commenting, "I love Lana but how hard is it to be on time to a show where you are getting paid millions of dollars and your fans are waiting for you?" Someone slammed her for being unprofessional, "Good. S**t so unprofessional.""Showing up late is so rude and unprofessional and I really don’t care what anyone else says. There’s a reason why everything is scheduled at these events, it’s to make sure all the artists get their full sets," said yet another person. Someone else quipped in, "The girls will have the world at their hands but privilege still has them missing blessings smh."
