'Looks like an album cover': Fetty Wap's photos from prison leaves the Internet scratching its head

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK CITY: Fans had a lot to say when images of incarcerated rapper Fetty Wap surfaced online, and showed him having gained significant weight since the initiation of his six-year sentence in May for selling drugs.

Just prior to his sentencing, Fetty Wap's legal team advocated for a reduced prison term of at least five years.

They argued that his involvement was a result of the economic challenges triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Suddenly it felt like life was going in reverse and he became ashamed when he began to struggle to keep up the lifestyle that he created for so many,” his lawyers said.

“His judgment became impaired. Desperate to keep up with his financial obligations, Mr Maxwell became involved in the instant offense for a few months in the spring of 2020."

In October 2021, Fetty Wap was initially arrested on charges related to the acquisition of over 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine spanning from June 2019 to June 2020.

The allegations asserted that he transported these drugs from the West Coast to be distributed in Long Island and New Jersey.

In August 2022, he entered a guilty plea in federal court, specifically admitting to conspiracy in possessing and distributing 500 grams or more of cocaine.

This plea subjected him to a potential sentence ranging from 87 to 108 months.

He was placed in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn due to concerns that his celebrity status could make him a target while in custody.
