Makayla Meave-Byers: Mystery surrounding Oklahoma woman found dead in a ditch deepens as police find blood at her home

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, OKLAHOMA: The mystery surrounding the death of Makayla Meave-Byers, a 30-year-old mother-of-six and teacher’s aide from Oklahoma, has deepened as authorities revealed that they found bloodstains and shell casings in her home.

Her husband, Frank Byers, who reported her missing on September 16, has hired a lawyer and is cooperating with the investigation, but was shunned by the community and barred from attending a vigil for his wife.

Did Makayla Byers go on a date before she went missing?

Meave-Byers’ body was found on September 22 in a ditch near a creek, wrapped in old pieces of carpet.

Pottawatomie County Undersheriff Travis Dinwiddie as per a report stated that foul play was “absolutely” suspected and that the case was being treated as a homicide.

According to an incident report obtained by News9, Frank Byers told deputies that his wife had gone on a date with someone she met on Facebook as part of their open marriage.

However, her father contradicted his story and claimed his statements "were not adding up" as she had recently asked him for a divorce, as per the incident report.

What did deputies find at Makayla Meave-Byers' home?

When deputies searched her home in Macomb, they discovered broken glass, " blood spots on the floor” and “blood on the sheets of the bed.

Besides two .22-caliber bullet casings that matched a rifle that she kept in a cabinet next to the bed.

The gun appeared to have been recently fired and had residue on the barrel and breach, according to officials.

Why is Frank Byers facing community hatred?

Frank Byers, who had previously pleaded for help finding his wife on Facebook, has faced “pure hatred” from the community, according to his friend Anne Gonzales.

She told News9, “He loved her, and still loves her,” adding, “Everybody just wants justice, including Franky’s side of the family.”

Gonzales also dismissed the blood found at the dead woman’s home, saying: “I was told it was nothing more than a nosebleed.”

On Tuesday, Frank Byers posted a link to his wife’s online obituary on his Facebook page.

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office had said that Meave-Byers was last seen "voluntarily" getting into a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a tall, balding man with a dark beard and sunglasses.

No arrests have been made so far in the case.
