MLB rumors: Max Scherzer makes his thoughts on Mets future abundantly clear

With the MLB trade deadline days away, Max Scherzer made it clear how he feels in regards to recent Mets moves.

As a professional player in one of the highest tiers of his respective sport, Max Scherzer can make his thoughts and feelings known one of two ways: He can show it on the mound when he gets his start opportunity every five days, or he can verbally address his thoughts to the media.

On Friday, he decided to make things crystal clear by doing both.

Scherzer, after pitching seven innings to the tune of one earned run and seven strikeouts, addressed his feelings on the New York Mets recent decision to trade closer David Robertson, and let it be known how he sees it impacting his future.

Max Scherzer all but publicly requested a trade from Mets

Max Scherzer stopped short of requesting a trade out in the open on Friday, but he might as well have done so. The hints were clear.

"I probably have to have a conversation with our front office. You're trading our closer away. A bunch of people are gonna have a conversation with the front office," Scherzer said,H/T New York Post for the transcription.

Another read of the quote is that Scherzer thinks he's next for the block and wants to get clarity on his own status before the deadline on Tuesday.

But between this and another rock-solid start lifting his trade value, it sure feels like he might be hinting toward wanting new scenery. And the Mets might be wise to pursue such an option.

Scherzer, speaking to the media, also specifically mentioned a previous trade where he was moved from the Nationals to the Dodgers, further hinting at the strong likelihood he will be dealt. There are already strong murmurs about fellow Mets starter Justin Verlander being traded out, too.

Certainly, the trade deadline may pass with Scherzer still in Queens, but the hints and logic follow through to indicate the best option for both New York and Scherzer is to look for trade opportunities.

At 49-54 with the biggest payroll in baseball, the Mets definitely have decisions to make.
