GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Prominent YouTube content creator Jimmy Donaldson aka MrBeast revealed that he had been invited to be a part of OceanGate's submersible which set off to view the Titanic wreckage. The tickets cost $250,000 per person. The YouTuber ultimately declined, narrowly escaping death.
On June 18, OceanGate's Titan submersible, which was diving into the Atlantic Ocean and going down to the Titanic debris, lost touch with its surface support ship. This accident captured the world's attention as there were five people aboard the vessel with a limited amount of oxygen and no way of escaping. The wreckage of the submarine was eventually discovered after an international search operation that lasted nearly a week.
'Kind of scary'
MrBeast tweeted a screenshot of a text message. The message explained the vehicle's journey to the Titanic's ruins and urged the YouTuber to join them. "I was invited earlier this month to ride the titanic submarine, I said no. Kind of scary that I could have been on it," MrBeast wrote.
The text in the screenshot read, "Also, I'm going to the Titanic in a submarine late this month. The team would be stoked to have you along. I'm sure you're also welcome to join..."
The submersible, created by the American diving company OceanGate, imploded during its descent to the infamous RMS Titanic debris site, killing all five occupants instantly.
They had spent $250,000 each for traveling in the submersible to see the Titanic firsthand. Earlier, the Titan had made numerous successful trips down to the crash site. However, it imploded under duress this time, presumably due to wear and tear from previous runs.
'Glad you said no'
In response to his tweet, MrBeast's fans expressed relief that he declined the invitation to board the submarine. One fan reacted, "So glad you said no, that’s terrifying. Was there something that stood out that made you decline going?" "Glad you didn't go on there, always check for safety and credibility before doing stuff like that," another concerned fan wrote.
A few users also accused MrBeast of lying about receiving the invitation. One pointed out, "But these screenshots is not coming for another sender it’s coming from the one who too the screenshot. You invited yourself." "Wait why is the text reciept blue why are you making this up," another user asked noticing the text background color and accusing MrBeast of lying about the invitation.
