NBA Free Agency: Pacers overpaid to add Bruce Brown, but that's okay

The Indiana Pacers signed Bruce Brown to a two-year deal worth over $40 million as NBA Free Agency kicked off on Friday.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Indiana Pacers have signed Bruce Brown to a two-year, $45 million deal.

The Nuggets made up for losing Brown by re-signing Reggie Jackson, using some of their midlevel money in order to sign him to a $10.25 million dollar deal over the next two years, according to Shams Charania.

Brown is a very solid role player in this league. He was able to cash a bag this offseason due to the fact that he was a key reason why the Nuggets ended up winning their first championship.

Brown was expected to get offers of around $12 million dollars per year (a mid-level exception). He most likely got contract offers around that number but decided to rightfully take the bag that was offered by the Pacers.

Is signing Bruce Brown a good decision by the Pacers?

This is a huge overpay by the Pacers. Yes, Bruce Brown is a very solid player in this league but this reeks of a team that was very desperate. Indiana was searching for a wing all offseason and got a guard who acts like a wing on the defensive end.

Then again, the Pacers were in a position where they had to spend the money or end up losing the money. They have all of their players on very nice contracts. Additionally, some of their key pieces are on rookie contracts which allows this team to overspend on a key role player like Brown.

Brown was connected to the Pacers on Friday and ended up taking the offer from the team.

Still, at the end of the day, the Pacers were looking for a good wing on their team and they were able to do this in this deal. Although it is a bad deal, this is a short-term deal that is an expiring contract in one year.
