Steve Kerr recently threw shade at some of the Warriors role players. But NBA rumors say everyone will probably be back together next season.
Steve Kerr and Draymond Green stirred up some controversy on Draymond Green's podcast after Game 2. After the Miami Heat beat the Denver Nuggets 111-108, Kerr spoke with Green about the playing time and adaptability of Miami Heat's players. In light of Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga, and Jordan Poole's frustration regarding unsteady minutes, Kerr's comments stirred things up.
Kerr pointed out that Miami's players don't worry about not playing. They've all bought in. Their only focus? Winning. And if you watched Golden State this year, you understand why Kerr's comments felt pointed. The team, like any dynasty, suffered growing pains this season. Starting the season with that drama between Draymond and Jordan was certainly not ideal.
It was no secret that Jonathan Kuminga and Jordan Poole were unhappy with their minutes this season. In fact, you could even say Poole's ineffectiveness was partly the reason for this year's early exit. When Golden State won the championship in 2022, Poole averaged 17 points. On the other hand, in this year's postseason, Poole averaged 10.3 points. Obviously, if you're the Warriors, this isn't the drop in production you want to see from someone you've invested a lot in. So, this concept of "buying in" was definitely an issue the Warriors faced this year, according to Kerr.
NBA rumors: Will the Warriors rely on the same core next season?
With Bob Myers stepping away, it may feel like a lot is up in the air for the Golden State Warriors. However, in a mailbag from The Athletic, Kawakami reported that, "management doesn't appear inclined to overhaul the roster before next season." Kawakami added, "that the front office might listen to offers if they get calls about Poole, but the core of the team will probably remain together for at least another year, with Curry and Klay Thompson under contract and Green considered likely to re-sign." Therefore, it seems that Kerr and Green's comments were only meant to inspire. Perhaps this was less of a call-out and more of an attempt to get their younger players to commit.
Hopefully, the Warriors can get through the summer without losing any key pieces because Josh Hart's summer recruiting tour is already underway. His first target? Former Villanova teammate Donte DiVincenzo.
DiVincenzo showed remarkable energy for Golden State in this postseason. A scenario where he ends up a Knick is intriguing but currently holds no more weight than any other NBA rumor out there. Golden State looks to add another player to their dynasty with the 19th pick in this year's NBA Draft.
