The documentary reveals an inside into her personal life from the eyes of her loved/close ones. Among her fame, drug addiction, and the tragic death of her son and herself, the film also reveals her short-lived moments with her father, Donald Eugene.
‘Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me’ premiered on Netflix on May 16, 2023. Anna grew up not knowing her biological father, and according to her best friend Missy, she always wanted to have a father figure in her life. She blamed the absence of her father on her mother, Virgie. Well, Anna was someone who would do anything to fulfill her dreams, and meeting her father was one of them. Although she met her father and brother in California, their reunion was short-lived.

Like everyone, Anna always idealized a father in her life. She believed that he also misses her like she does. When Anna Nicole Smith found herself in Hollywood, signing contracts with Guess and Playboy, she hired a private investigator to find her father. When she received a call of his whereabouts, she flew both him and her brother to meet in California.

Anna Nicole Smith met her father and brother in California the same year she was named Playboy’s Playmate of the Year. The documentary reveals her in her 20-s, still bubbly and coherent, as she went on to meet her father, Donald Eugene, and brother, Donnie. They partied their way while spending much time together. Anna even invited them to the Playboy Mansion to attend Hugh Hefner’s party in her honor. Further, they went to Disneyland alongside her son, Daniel, for a family excursion. Their moments together were touchy and emotional. However, they were momentary.
Donald was not the father figure Anna envisioned. As Donnie explained in the documentary, “My father is not the type of guy you want to be alone with. You’re not going to feel safe”. He also tells the camera that he remembers a horrific scene his father shared about raping Anna’s aunt when she was a child. Donnie shared the warning with Anna, and she left California in utter silence.

In the documentary, Missy reveals that Anna told her that Donald tried to have s** with her. She said, “It was really sad because I know how happy she was when she met him. She had all of these ideas in her head of what he was like, and what it was going to be like, and then she was just so, so disappointed." Though the documentary, Ursula MacFarlane, could not corroborate the truth, she did present Anna’s brother Donnie on camera. Donnie was stunned hearing Anna’s claim and replied in disbelief, “That would be like him. I wouldn’t put it past him. It could be true”. After several months of Anna’s claim about his father, she was hospitalized after a drug overdose. Well, you don’t always get what you dream of.
