NFL rumors: Dalvin Cook suitor maintaining very 'real’ interest

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is still receiving interest from this team in the AFC East.

Training camp is underway for all 32 NFL teams, as they all prepare for the upcoming season in hopes of winning a Super Bowl. Despite this, there are still players that are free agents that could come in to help them fill out roster spots or address positions of need. Or, in the case of running back Dalvin Cook, contribute as a starter. But as of this writing, he has yet to sign with a team, despite the interest he has received from teams.

When speaking with the media on Wednesday, New England Patriots director of player personnel Matt Groh said that the team is in contact with Cook.

Groh said, "You don't see guys of this talent available at this time of the year," and called it "a unique situation."

NFL rumors: Patriots director of player personnel confirms interest in Dalvin Cook

The Patriots have been linked to Cook since after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings. At one point, they were listed as the betting favorites to sign him. They have also worked out some running backs recently, including Leonard Fournette. However, the Patriots are not alone in potentially adding Cook to their depth chart.

The Miami Dolphins were linked to Cook early on, considering he grew up in the area.

Then there are the New York Jets, who are all-in to win a Super Bowl after the team traded for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as evidenced by their signings of wide receivers Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Mecole Hardman.

Oh, then there's also the Buffalo Bills, whom Cook didn't rule out signing with during an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show." Of course, the Bills have Cook's younger brother, James, on the roster, While he said that he would be apprehensive about getting in his brother's way, he brought up that the team lost Nyheim Hines for the season due to a freak jet skiing accident.

Cook is coming off of a 2022 season in which he ran for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns on 264 carries while catching 39-of-56 targets for 295 yards and two touchdowns.

Will the Patriots be able to sign Cook? Will one of their rivals sign him away from them? Or will Cook go elsewhere?
