LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise has already been in the news even before his next big release, ‘Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One’. The iconic star has given numerous movies over the years for his fans to cherish for generations. Much like his work, Cruise has always attracted the media’s attention to his relationships.
The ‘Top Gun’ actor had been married thrice and shares three children with two of his ex-wives. His first marriage was with Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990. He went on to exchange vows for the second time with Nicole Kidman in 1990 before their divorce in 2001. His third marriage was with Katie Holmes, which survived from 2006 to 2012. While Tom Cruise claimed Nicole was aware of why he wanted to divorce her, 'The Others' actress claimed otherwise.
Cruise shares two adoptive children — Connor Cruise and Isabella Jane Cruise — with Kidman. Besides, he has fathered Suri Cruise with Holmes. While the 60-year-old’s apparent divorce reasons for his first and third wife have been out public, nothing has been cleared yet why he and ‘The Others’ actress decided to go their separate ways in February 2001.
‘Nic knows why'
Cruise and Kidman were married for more than a decade. They also suffered two failed pregnancies together before adopting children. But suddenly in 2001, their separation news was announced. The ‘Jack Reacher’ star did not give any explanation about it and just said, “Nic knows why,” as reported by The Mirror.
The update left their fans devastated but what was more shocking was Kidman claiming she also did not know what happened. She shared, “I thought our life together was perfect. It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system.” Besides, a spokesperson of her said, “This divorce was not her decision. Tom made the move. Nicole is in a state of shock.”
‘Sometimes you share your grief’
At the time, reports citing the former duo’s divorce papers stated that the 55-year-old actress “protested [Cruise's] intention to dissolve their marriage and urged him not to leave but to enter marriage counseling with her, or take other steps to address whatever problems may have existed in their marriage...Tom said his decision was final and he departed the parties' home.”
Furthermore, it was said at the time that Cruise asserted that his marriage with Kidman had reached its final point in December 2020 only. The actress, however, refuted it claiming they were quite close and intimate with each other during that timeline, which resulted in her being pregnant also. But that pregnancy did not end well. Kidman told Marie Claire in 2007, “I had a miscarriage at the end of my marriage, but I had an ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of my marriage. It was incredibly traumatic for me. Sometimes you share your grief. What will be will be. It's in God's hands.”
