Apple revealed iOS 17 at its 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, detailing updates such as its new Check-In safety feature and Live Voicemail transcription.

However, not all iPhones will be able to take advantage of these new functions. Some of Apple's older phones are being left out of the great iOS 17 update, most likely because newer, more robust software requires newer, more robust hardware to run it.

There's a strong likelihood that you're in the clear if you purchased your iPhone within the last three or four years. But if you're still clinging to the same device you've had since before 2018, it's worth checking whether you're able to update it to iOS 17.
