FLINT, MICHIGAN: The Internet is outraged over a shocking video that shows a Michigan student hurling a metal chair at a teacher.
In the video that has garnered over 11 thousand views on X, the teacher is seen being attacked by the perpetrator with the chair from across the classroom, per Daily Mail.
Where did the incident happen?
The shocking incident took place at the Southwestern Classical Academy in Flint, Michigan on Thursday, September 29.
In the footage, the teacher is seen addressing the students from the head of the classroom when the chair was hurled by the student.
The unnamed teacher was taken to the hospital and treated for the injuries. She was discharged later on the same day. However, it is not clear what injuries she received.
School authority showed concerns over the ‘physical altercation’
On Thursday, on behalf of the Flint Community School, Superintendent Kavelin Jones issued a statement regarding the incident at Southwestern Classical Academy.
Jones said that the “safety and well-being of both our scholars and staff are of utmost importance to us.”
The letter however did not mention clearly whether the student had been expelled. However, the school wrote in the letter that they “are taking proactive steps to ensure the situation is handled effectively.”
The letter continued, “We understand that incidents like these can be concerning and we want to assure you that we are actively working to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone at Southwestern Classical Academy.”
'When will this all stop?'
The act was condemned by parents and netizens alike as they took to Facebook to show their anger.
One netizens said sarcastically, "Oh I am sure thus sweet and upstanding young lady of impeccable characteristics had never ever done something like this before. Ever."
Another wanted the perpetrator arrested, "Hopefully there will be punishment as allowed by law.. whoever threw that chair needs to be arrested."
Another social media user commented with caution, "Dont be surprised if a lawsuit is filed against school, district, student and the student's parents."
"How is the teacher doing? Can we get an update on that…A lot of us are really concerned…," asked a concerned netizen.
An angry netizen commented, "Disgusting, criminal behavior. Hope that this woman presses charges."
Echoing the same sentiment, someone else said, "Expel the student responsible & also give suspensions to the students who recorded & laughed at the fallen teacher."
Someone asked hopelessly, "When will this all stop?"
A concerned citizen slammed the parents of the "unruly" student, "When the troublemaker’s parents decide they want to start parenting and teach their kids good morals, values and proper behavior! It’s not the teachers job to babysit unruly kids, it’s their job to teach reading, writing and math!"
"Words cannot describe how HORRIFIED I am seeing a teacher knocked out cold like this by a student. In my day this would have been EXPULSION and ARREST by the local police," said someone else on X.
"It’s attempted murder pretty much that simple," said another user on social media.
