Paul McCartney shares a heartwarming post to celebrate Ringo Starr and his father James' birthday: 'Two of my heroes'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Paul McCartney is wishing the two most important men in his life! ‘The Beatles’ legend on Friday took to Instagram and asked fans to celebrate the day in a special way since it is the birthday of his bandmate Ringo Starr, and his late father James McCartney. The 81-year-old captioned, “Happy Birthday to two of my heroes. It’s Ringo and my Dad’s birthday so let’s have a great day to celebrate these two great people - Paul.”

He shared their photographs, as for Starr, he chose a recent snap of a popular drummer posing with his iconic peace sign. And for his dad, McCartney posted a throwback black-and-white baby picture of him with both his parents. James passed away in 1976. This week, Ringo Starr talked with People, ahead of his 83rd birthday about his annual Peace & Love event, and how he wants the fans to mark the milestone.

'My spirits are high'

"Nothing makes me feel old. In my head, I'm 27. Wisdom's a heavy word. [Getting older] is what happens, and you try and keep yourself busy," he said. Ringo will be joined by Mike Campbell, Joe Walsh, Sheila E, Richard Marx, Diane Warren, Roy Orbison Jr, and Edgar Winter for the event.

He shared that he’s looking forward to his annual tour, "I never felt really down. I mean, I have my moments, of course. But my spirits are high. That's all I can say, really."'

'You can say peace and love'

Earlier in his Instagram post, Starr had advised fans on how they can celebrate his birthday, "We've been doing it now for so many years. And now I've upped it a bit because I say, 'You can say peace and love or you can just think peace and love.' So any way, you're winning."

Reminiscing the good old days as ‘The Beatles’ band member and how it all started for him, Starr said, "There's an interview of the four of us — Paul was going to write songs, George was going to have a garage, and I was going to have a hairdresser. We thought that's what we'd be doing, and it would last three or four years, but it lasted eight." The 83-year-old icon further said that this may be called the understatement of the century, "and we did a lot of great tracks."
