The PGA Championship is here and leading up to the opening tee shot, you're going to read plenty of articles and listen to plenty of podcasts about who you should bet on to win the second major championship of the year.
In this article, I'm going to tell you NOT to bet instead. Picking the winner is tough so let me help you out by narrowing down the list of names for you.
Not only should you not bet on these golfers, you can actually bet against them using matchup bets against other golfers.
Let's jump into three golfers you should fade at the PGA Championship.
Golfers to fade at the PGA Championship
Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy has the third shortest odds to win the PGA Championship, which is ridiculous. He hasn't won a major tournament since 2014 and his game has been all over the place as of late. He has missed the cut twice in his last four starts, including at The Masters.
He's also coming off a T47 finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.
If you want to fade him, you can do exactly that by betting on Xander Schauffele to beat him in a head-to-head matchup.
Justin Thomas
Fading the defending champion is a bold move, but much like McIlroy, Justin Thomas has struggled lately. Also like McIlroy, JT missed the cut at The Masters this year.
He also hasn't finished 9th or better since the WM Phoenix Open in February when he finished fourth.
His approach play and driving is still strong, but his short game has been a complete disaster. If you want to bet against the defending champion, you can take Jason Day, last week's winner at the AT&T Byron Nelson, over Thomas in a head-to-head matchup.
Max Homa
Max Homa was one of the hottest golfers to start the season, already racking up two wins. The next step for Homa is to truly compete at a Major Championship, but we haven't seen him be able to do that yet. In fact, he only has one top 20 finish at a Major, finishing T13 at last year's PGA Championship.
His game also hasn't been peaking lately. He finished T43 at The Masters and then followed it up with two straight cuts. I'm not saying he'll never win a major, but this certainly isn't the week to bet on him.
