LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After claiming he was hurt because his girlfriend's children do not call him dad, HGTV star Jonathan Scott celebrated Father's Day anyway. He uploaded a photo with his father Jonathan and photos with Zooey Deschanel's children. He also shared some of the things Zooey's children did for Jonathan to show their love for him.
Jonathan refers to himself as a "bonus dad" to Zoey's children because they already have a biological father and he is an addition to the father list. Even though Jonathan claims that he is too happy to be just a father figure, deep down he wants to be called a "dad." Jonathan recently revealed that his girlfriend's children call him "My Jonathan."

'Being a bonus dad has been one of my greatest accomplishments'
Being a father is surely the greatest thing in the world. On the occasion of Father's Day, Jonathan shared a picture with his father on Instagram. He then uploaded a picture with Zooey's children. He hid the children's faces by placing emojis. Jonathan also shared a bunch of notes that Charlie, 6, and Elise, 7, made for Jonathan over the years. There was a birthday note written by one of the children saying, "I love you, you are the best Jonathan ever." Another note written by Charlie said, "Dear Jonathan, Happy Birthday! I like when you carry me! Love you! Love, Charlie."
Jonathan seemed to be overwhelmed as he shared the perks of being a father. He captioned the post, "Being a bonus dad has been one of my greatest accomplishments and adventures so far." The reality star further thanked his father, "Thank you Dad for the advice over the years and #HappyFathersDay to all the father figures out there."

Jonathan Scott worked on expressing his feelings to Zooey Deschanel's children
Jonathan admits that he has now understood the situation and worked on his feelings accordingly. "Over time, I worked on expressing my feelings to them and the things that make me sad and happy. I think it's good for kids to know that grownups have feelings too," says Jonathan. The star tries to have an "open dialogue" with Zooey's children. He says having an open dialogue with kids is "important because as they get older, they'll continue to keep those lined open." Jonathan says whenever his stepchildren refer to him as "That's not my daddy, he's my Jonathan. That would hurt a little bit."

'It's just how they know me'
Jonathan has tried everything to get his stepchildren to call him either Dad or Papa. But Dad is something they call their biological father, and they call their grandfather Papa. Jonathan tried to get the kids to call him Papa, but "they weren't having it." So Jonathan started to get used to being called "my Jonathan" by his stepchildren. He does not feel it's mean, though. the 'Property Brothers' star says, "It's just how they know me."
