Red Sox: Kutter Crawford makes insane diving play, but leaves due to injury

Boston Red Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford went all out on a dive to get an out at first base in Saturday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Boston Red Sox recently ended their four-game losing streak this past Friday when they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2. On Saturday, the team had the chance to clinch the series win. Let's just say that Red Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford was willing to do anything possible to ensure that goal became a reality.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Crawrford faced Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno to start things off. But on an 0-2 count, Moreno hit a comebacker that hit Crawford in the ankle. Even after the impact, Crawford rushed to the baseball, lost his glove, and made a diving shovel pass to first baseman Triston Casas to get the out.

After replay review, the ruling on the field was upheld, giving the Red Sox their first out of the inning. But there was some concern afterwards.

Crawford threw some warmup pitches but eventually walked off of the field with the team's trainer Brandon Henry. Chris Martin entered in relief of Crawford, and forced a groundout to Jake McCarthy and a flyout to Geraldo Perdomo to end the top of the eighth.

The Red Sox revealed that Crawford left the game with a right ankle contusion.

Crawford entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, and he got all seven batters he faced out. In 2.1 innings, he struck out three batters, issued no walks, and allowed zero hits.

On the year, Crawford recorded a 3.30 ERA, a 0.90 WHIP, 30 strikeouts, and four walks in 30.0 innings (nine games).

Crawford had a strong outing for the Red Sox, highlighted by his effort to get the out at first, despite bruising his ankle.
