Robert De Niro ordered to pay $1.2M to his ex-assistant Chase Robinson in gender discrimination lawsuit

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Robert De Niro’s former assistant will be receiving $1.2 million in a gender discrimination lawsuit.

As per the NYC jury, the ‘Raging Bull’ star’s company must compensate Chase Robinson after they were found guilty of gender discrimination and retaliation.

Chase Robinson celebrated her lawsuit win

Robinson, during the trial, testified that De Niro and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen created a hostile environment for her to function.

The ex-assistant was seen smiling and hugging all her lawyers after the jury left the room.

Robinson, who quit her job in 2019, said she had to go through severe depression and anxiety. “I don’t have a social life. I’m so humiliated and embarrassed and feel so judged. I feel so damaged in a way. … I lost my life. Lost my career," she said.

"Lost my financial independence. I lost everything,” she added, reports WTNH.

Robinson, in her lawsuit, claimed that De Niro has failed to adapt to the changing world and the public sentiment.

"Robert De Niro is someone who has clung to old mores. He does not accept the idea that men should treat women as equals. He does not care that gender discrimination in the workplace violates the law. Ms Robinson is a casualty of this attitude," the lawsuit read.

Meanwhile, Tiffany Chen, in an interview, was asked about Robinson's claim that she had to do "whatever" De Niro asked of her.

“Within professional reasoning, yes. He would direct her and she would delegate to other people [who worked at Canal Productions],” Chen said.

The two women met each other in 2018 and their text message was shown in court. In the texts, De Niro’s partner wrote, “Who the hell are you?!?! We need to repopulate the planet with your DNA…"

The messages further showed Chen saying, “You guys have such a great dynamic and chemistry it comes across so nicely in everything you two do together…. He speaks so glowingly of you and it’s nice to see that even his most complimentary moments have done you justice.”

Many fans reacted to the court’s ruling. “I’m not a fan of Deniro, but this is a pretty blatant shakedown. It sets bad precedent,” wrote one on X. "When "nonsense" wins," a second user said. "So glad DeNiro got caught in his hatred towards women. Good justice.." another wrote.
