Saints player's 'miraculous' cancer diagnosis already inspiring team in OTAs

Saints tight end Foster Moreau is writing the comeback story of the offseason, giving his teammates the motivation they need for a strong start in 2023.

Foster Moreau joining the New Orleans Saints might have saved his life — literally.

The former Las Vegas Raiders tight end flew to New Orleans for a free-agent visit back in March, and during his medical examination, the Saints' team physician diagnosed Moreau with Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Just two months after first being diagnosed with cancer, Moreau is back on the field running drills and catching balls with his Saints teammates.

Moreau was registered as a full participant in the Saints' first open OTA this past week, looking as healthy as anybody else save for the natural effects of fatigue.

He told the media on Tuesday:

"I'd say being here, at this stage, is probably more miraculous. But being home, reunited with Derek (Carr), that's probably not nearly as miraculous."

Saints TE Foster Moreau has inspiring and miraculous cancer recovery

Moreau was reunited with quarterback Derek Carr this offseason after the two spent the last four years in Las Vegas.

Carr congratulated Moreau for securing a three-year, $12 million deal with the Saints earlier this month, and so far it seems NOLA made a wise decision bringing in one of Carr's old friends to kick off a new era of Saints football.

It's nothing short of amazing that Moreau has bounced back from his initial cancer diagnosis and joined the Saints in on-field activities within the span of a few months. The 25-year-old said he's not out of the woods just yet and will have a PET scan sometime in the next several weeks.

The Saints have all the bulletin board material they need in 2023 after finishing third in the NFC South last year with a measly 7-10 record. With Tom Brady (hopefully) retired for good, NOLA should be able to make a strong push to regain the division just like the old times when Sean Payton and Drew Brees held the reins.

This season, Dennis Allen and Derek Carr will be leading the franchise to victory after victory, and they'll have Foster Moreau's feel-good story of the year to keep the Saints marching on.
