Manchester United left-back Sergio Reguilon has put his positive start to life at Old Trafford down to being on "exactly the same page" as manager Erik ten Hag.

Reguilon was drafted in as an emergency signing at the end of the summer transfer window following an injury to Luke Shaw on top of Tyrell Malacia's existing absence.

The 26-year-old had previously been a United target back in 2020 off the back of an impressive loan at Sevilla that culminated with Europa League glory. He ended up joining Tottenham from Real Madrid instead, only to see his career stagnate. A loan to Atletico Madrid last season was wrecked by injury trouble, which left him in a difficult position upon returning to Spurs.

But the move to Manchester has been a lifeline for Reguilon, who suddenly looks like he is heading back towards the player who 90min named as the fifth best left-back in the world in 2020.

It wasn't an easy start, making his debut as Brighton dismantled United at Old Trafford. But the Spaniard stood out for his energy and work ethic in the seven-goal thriller against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and again when Ten Hag's side went to Burnley on Saturday night.

That kind of output is exactly what the United boss wants to see and Reguilon has said it has made it easier to integrate because he is already able to do it.

"We have been speaking in training about what he wants from his left-back. I think we share the same philosophy. He likes hard workers and I love working hard, I think we're on exactly the same page," the player told United Review.

Reguilon is also particularly happy to play in front of the United fans.

"I played [at Old Trafford] for the away side once during Covid and so, unfortunately, there were no fans but, the next time, the stadium was full and it was truly amazing," he said.

"It's a historic stadium and really special. There's so much history. As we say in Spain, they are gentlemen. They have been through it all [and] it's amazing to see this in football."
