CANNES, FRANCE: Natalie Portman looked nothing short of sensational as she pulled off a museum-worthy design to attend the Cannes Film Festival after years of absence. The two-time Golden Globe winner, 41, made an appearance in an exclusive Dior design to attend the premiere of her upcoming film “May December” at the iconic film festival in France on Saturday, May 20
The ‘Black Swan’ star stepped on the red carpet in a bone-coloured dress, featuring white beads across the white top half, which flaunted her exquisite collarbone and slim neck. The ensemble, which varied in color from pure white on the breast to splotches of blue around the petal embellishments, billowed out from the hips with lovely petal-like layers. Portman complimented her look with a dazzling set of diamond drop earrings and a pair of white platform open-toe shoes.

Natalie Portman wore a recreation of iconic 'Junon' gown
The ‘Thor: Love and Thunder' star wore her brunette tresses in a slicked-back updo and completed her makeup look with sparkling silver eye shadow, a nude lip, and pink blush. Portman’s breathtaking look was a recreation of the legendary 'Junon' haute couture gown, an exceptional creation made by Christian Dior for the 1949 Fall/Winter season, over 75 years ago, according to Insider. The original gown is part of The Costume Institute's collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. As per the Museum, The original Dior design made reverence to Juno, the Roman goddess most closely resembling the Greek goddess Hera.
'This is an insane pull'
Reimagined here by Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior, the dress is similar to the outfits worn by Portman's ballerina character in The ‘Black Swan’, as per Variety. Portman’s look garnered immense praise on the Internet, with one user saying, “THIS IS AN INSANE PULL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Natalie Portman wearing the iconic Christian Dior 'Junon' gown from Fall/Winter 1949 at the Cannes film festival.” “I’m pretty sure it’s a custom remake by MGC rather than the original piece itself but it’s sooo beautifully done I’m speechless,” a second user wrote. A fan added, “This is one of my favourite dresses ever!!! She looks like a dream!”
Another user praised Portman, saying, “Natalie Portman at the Cannes film festival wearing one of Christian Dior’s most iconic dresses of all time the Junon dress designed in 1949!!!! I’ll not shut up about this for the next 6 months I truly think this might be the most dreamy dress & red carpet moment I’ve ever seen.” “A crazy moment in history seeing this gown worn is so iconic, it is too pretty,” a user added.
'You’re defined by the social structures upon you'
The praises came after Portman opened up on how women are expected to behave 'differently' than men at Cannes. During the media conference, the actress spoke about her movie ‘May December’ and said that the production team did not face any shortage of inspiration material for the film due to America’s obsession with scandals. She then spoke up about the portrayal of femininity onscreen, saying “Of course, performing femininity is, I think a recurring theme in Todd’s films as well and something I am very curious about and interested in.”
Portman also made note of how women are expected to behave differently, even at the Cannes Film Festival, where she is promoting the film, as per Meaww’s previous report. “Even here, the different ways we, as women, are expected to behave at this festival even compared to men… how we’re supposed to look, how we’re supposed to carry ourselves,” the actress said. She added, “The expectations are different on you all the time. It affects how you behave, whether you are buying into or rejecting it or whether you are doing something in between. You’re defined by the social structures upon you."
