In one of the most shocking results of the NBA Playoffs to date, the Philadelphia 76ers took a 3-2 series lead in Boston against the NBA title favorites Celtics on Tuesday night, winning 115-103.
The Sixers, who were seen as the most unlikely team to advance out of the second round due to an LCL sprain to Joel Embiid and facing the highest rated team left in the postseason in the Celtics, are now one win away from the Eastern Conference Finals. The win sent the Sixers odds flying, now co-favorites with the Denver Nuggets to win it all.
The Sixers have had standout performances from James Harden this series, including 45 points in a Game 1 stunner in Boston, and the game winning shot against the Celtics in Game 4 in overtime while trailing 2-1.
However, Game 5 was for the MVP Embiid, who feasted on the Celtics frontcourt to the tune of 33 points and a massive chase down block in the fourth quarter to stymie a Boston run.
After being seen as an afterthought in the postseason, the Sixers now host the Celtics with one win between them and the Eastern Conference Finals. Philly hasn't made it to the penultimate round since 2001 with Allen Iverson. Currently, the Celtics are two-point road favorites with its backs against the wall.
