Spain confirm Lamine Yamal injury decision following Barcelona disagreement

The Spanish football federation (RFEF) have confirmed that Lamine Yamal will not take part in their October internationals due to injury.

Barcelona revealed on Monday that the 16-year-old would not join up with the Spain national team having suffered a muscle injury. However, RFEF wanted to evaluate Yamal for themselves and make their own assessments.

A similar situation occurred between England and Arsenal, who were at odds over the fitness of Bukayo Saka before his withdrawal was confirmed on Monday.

To Barca's delight, RFEF have announced that Yamal will return home following their medical checks.

A statement on Tuesday read: "The international Lamine Yamal leaves the concentration of the Spanish National Team after being evaluated by the medical services of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and determining that he will not be able to participate in the next two qualifying matches for the Euro 2024 that will pit Spain against Scotland in Seville and against Norway in Oslo."

Yamal has broken all sorts of records during a stunning season so far, becoming Spain's youngest ever player and scorer during their 7-1 win at Georgia last month.

Spain have already confirmed that Granada winger Bryan Zaragoza, who scored both goals in a 2-2 draw with Barcelona on Sunday, and Barca loanee Ansu Fati have been called into Luis de la Fuente's squad for their Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Barcelona will still be represented in La Roja's squad by left-back Alejandro Balde, midfielder Gavi and forward Ferran Torres.

De la Fuente's team currently sit second in their Euro 2024 qualifying group having picked up nine points from four games. They sit six points adrift of surprise leaders Scotland though have played one match fewer than Steve Clarke's side.
