Bologna’s leaning Century Garisenda tower sealed off by police over fears it could collapse
Bologna’s leaning Century Garisenda tower has been sealed off by police, following fears that it could collapse. The 154-foot tower is the counterpart to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and now has a 16-foot barrier erected around it (estimated to cost £3.7 million) to prevent any debris causing damage or injury. It first closed in October after sensors detected it had begun to lean, however, the council are now dubbing the situation ‘critical’. A civil protection plan to preserve buildings nearby is now in place.

Guardiola urges Man City fans to come to Spurs clash because it will be ‘fun’
Pep Guardiola has encouraged Manchester City fans to come and support their team during their fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, because it will be a “fun” match. The Spaniard also admitted he was wowed by Ange Postecoglu when he first came up against him as a coach during a pre-season tour back in 2019. “I met him just once - three or four pre-seasons ago against Yokohama,” Guardiola said of his opposite number, previewing this weekend’s fixture. “Ange was the manager. It was the second pre-season game and I said wow, there are things I like... I encourage our fans to come to the stadium, because we will have fun.” Postecoglu, meanwhile, is relishing the challenge of taking injury-hit Spurs to Man City. Elon Musk believes OpenAI may have made ‘dangerous’ discovery
Elon Musk has suggested that OpenAI may have discovered “something dangerous,” leading to chaos at the company. He made the comments after the research organisation recently fired and re-hired its CEO, Sam Altman, under mysterious circumstances. Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, said that he had attempted to find out what happened behind the scenes, but had failed to do so. The billionaire had reached out to numerous people working at the company, including Ilya Sutskever, a chief scientist and board member, who is believed to have led the rebellion against Mr Altman, but had not heard anything. He has previously criticised the company’s shift toward profit-oriented operations and decision to cease open-sourcing its work. World’s oldest zoo becomes first to breed protected crocodile species
Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna, Austria, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first to successfully breed protected crocodile tegus. The two offspring, born on 23 November, mark a significant achievement for the world’s oldest zoo and the conservation of the semi-aquatic predatory lizards native to South America. Originally seized in the Netherlands, the parents of the offspring were residing in a Belgian zoo before transferring to Vienna in 2021. Crocodile tegus, targeted by smugglers for their value, are listed in CITES appendix II. Successful breeding provides valuable insights, contributing to their protection outside their natural habitat. Guardiola admits concern after Man City’s 3-2 comeback Champions League win
Pep Guardiola admits he was concerned after Manchester City’s 3-2 comeback win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League. The holders trailed to two breakaway Lois Openda goals at half-time of Tuesday’s clash (28 November) at the Etihad Stadium. Phil Foden sparked their recovery after the interval, teeing up goals for Erling Haaland and substitute Jeremy Doku either side of scoring a sublime effort himself. “If you talk about the game, we could do better,” Guardiola admitted at full-time. “Sloppy goals, in football you have to win duels and it was quite similar against Chelsea. We were solid and now we’ve had two warnings already.” Guardiola also made a plea to City fans ahead of the Leipzig fixture. Irish Parliament protected by ring of steel following rioting in Dublin
Ireland's parliament was surrounded by steel barriers following violence in Dublin this week. A heavy gardai (Irish police) presence has been seen in the capital across the weekend following rioting on Thursday night (23 November). Violence broke out after a knife attack on three children and their care assistant outside a school in the north inner city. Chaotic scenes involving far-right elements saw police cars, buses and trams set alight, and shops looted and damaged. Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said 48 arrests have been made in the city since Thursday and a high-visibility policing plan is in place throughout the weekend. Ten Hag urges Man Utd to match ‘fuel’ of Everton’s anger after 10-point penalty
Erik ten Hag has urged Manchester United to match Everton’s energy ahead of Sunday’s (26 November) game, as he says players and fans will be “mad” about the 10-point penalty imposed on the club. United travel to Goodison Park this weekend to face a team fuelled by a sense of injustice after an independent commission imposed the sanction on the club for a breach of Premier League profitability and sustainability rules. “If they are mad and that’s their fuel, we have to match those standards. When we match the standards we have a very good chance to win the game,” Ten Hag said.

Lewis Hamilton says Red Bull chief Christian Horner is ‘stirring things’ over team move claims
Lewis Hamilton has denied Christian Horner’s claims that he reached out over a potential move from Mercedes, saying the Red Bull team principal is “just stirring things”. Horner claimed in an interview published on Wednesday 22 November that a representative of the seven-time F1 champion had approached Red Bull earlier this year - before he signed his two-year Mercedes contract renewal. “I don’t really understand what he’s been talking about because no one, as far as I’m aware, from my team has spoken to him,” Hamilton said, responding to the claims. “However, he did reach out to me earlier on in the year about meeting up, but that’s it. I just congratulated them on an amazing year. “So I’m not really sure, I think he’s just stirring things.” Read More Shaq O’Neal ‘ignores’ Martin Brundle at Las Vegas Grand Prix before bizarre response Ronnie O’Sullivan says he started snooker world championship ‘on phone to Samaritans’ Watch: Travis Kelce reads his ‘nonsense’ old tweets that have been going viral
