Tom Hanks tells Cher she's 'missing out' after candid revelation on Graham Norton Show
Tom Hanks tells Cher she's 'missing out' after candid revelation on Graham Norton Show
Tom Hanks was forced to interject on the Graham Norton Show on Friday night after Cher admitted that she wasn't a big fan of herself and rarely listens to her music or watches her films. Hanks and Cher were among a star-studded set of guests on the BBC show, sitting alongside other Hollywood royalty; Julia Roberts and Timothee Chalamet. During Norton's conversation with Cher he asked the entertainment icon if she ever listens to her own music or watches herself on screen. The 77-year-old simply replied by saying she's "not a big Cher fan" adding: "I don't usually listen to a song. Usually I like the songs that weren't hits." Norton then asked if she's ever sat down to watch any of her movies if they were on TV. She bluntly replied 'no.' Sensing that Cher was underplaying her impressive filmography, Hanks piped up and told her she was "missing out." The Academy Award winner enthusiastically continued: "Motion picture perfection? Mamma Mia 2. When she busts our Fernando the whole world stops. Suns clash into stars." Chalamet also pointed out that Moonstruck was a highlight, a movie that Cher won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1988. Hanks then said: "I think we should all go to the theatre and watch Cher movies, right?" or as Julia Roberts called it a "Cher-a-thon." Just in case Hanks didn't express enough in that snippet how big of a Cher fan he was he also started chanting her name shortly after she finished performing. Elsewhere viewers were in awe at the level of stardom on the show. One person wrote: "The level of stardom on #grahamnorton tonight is crazy! Everyone in the audience is SO lucky to be at this one!" Another said: "What an iconic sofa tonight." A third added: "What. A. Sofa. Lineup!!! Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Sabrina Carpenter drops blunt Jesus fact in response to Church controversy
Sabrina Carpenter drops blunt Jesus fact in response to Church controversy
Pop star Sabrina Carpenter ruffled some feathers after filming her music video inside a Church, and she has the best response to the criticism. Carpenter, who has recently been opening for Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour, filmed the music video for her song "Feather" inside the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in New York. The video shows Carpenter dancing around the church whilst wearing a tiny black tulle dress and veil. The church pastor who agreed to have the video filmed there has been stripped of his duties, and the church claimed it had to re-bless the establishment because it was so "appalled" at the video. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn said in a statement to the Catholic News Agency, "The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property which includes a review of the scenes and script." Speaking to Variety, about the backlash Carpenter had a cheeky response, saying "we got approval in advance," before adding, "and Jesus was a carpenter." Fans loved her witty response to the criticism. One wrote "you could never make me hate Sabrina Carpenter", whilst another said, "Sabrina Carpenter has a forever fan in me for this reply." Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony also seemed to love Carpenter's response: Whilst many fans and non-fans alike just seemed to find the whole thing hilarious: Take a look at the music video here: Sabrina Carpenter - Feather (Official Video) youtu.be Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Jack Antonoff post may give new insight into Taylor Swift's break up with Joe Alwyn
Jack Antonoff post may give new insight into Taylor Swift's break up with Joe Alwyn
Fans are going crazy for Taylor Swift's co-collaborator and producer, Jack Antonoff's Instagram story, which many are saying gives new insight into Swift's relationship with ex Joe Alwyn. After Spotify made the announcement that Taylor Swift was the platform's most streamed artist of the year, Swift released her song "You're Losing Me" onto the platform, which was previously only available on a limited edition CD of her album Midnights. The song's original release on May 2023 made many already speculate it was about Swift's ex, Joe Alwyn, as their breakup had been publicly announced the month beforehand. As Midnights was only released at the end of 2022, fans speculated "You're Losing Me" was written in 2022. However, Antonoff's story suggests differently. At the announcement of the song going onto streaming services, Antonoff shared a photo of Swift eating raisins before recording the song. In the text accompanying the photo Antonoff wrote: "you're losing me is out today. a very special track from the midnights sessions that's finally streaming! written and recorded at home on 12/5/21 right after Taylor ate these raisins." The date mentioned threw fans into a frenzy, and on social media many are suggesting that Swift and Alwyn's relationship was on the rocks since December 2021. Taylor Swift's publicist slams Joe Alywn secret marriage rumours
Taylor Swift's publicist slams Joe Alywn secret marriage rumours
Taylor Swift's publicist has taken to social media to criticise the "fabricated lies" concerning rumours that the singer and ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn secretly got married. In a rare reaction, Tree Paine posted on Twitter/X responding to a post by Instagram celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi who alleged the Anti-Hero singer had a UK ceremony in 2020 or 2021 that was apparently "NEVER made legal". "I have no reason to lie, I could give a shit what she does!!!!!” DeuxMoi wrote. “I’m sorry she didn’t tell you guys about it in a song but just because she doesn’t sing about something doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!!!” This discussion came after Swifties were investigating the timeline of Swift and Alwyn's breakup following the release of Swift's breakup song 'You’re Losing Me, 'after collaborator Jack Antonoff revealed that the song was written and recorded by Swift in December 2021. But it's clear Swift's publicist had enough of the rumours as she took to Twitter/X to directly respond to DeuxMoi's claims of a secret pandemic (and unofficial) wedding. "Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi," Paine wrote shooting down the rumour. "There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these." Of course, Swifties were quick to provide their reactions to Paine speaking out. Meanwhile, Swift attended the London premiere of Beyoncé's documentary concert film 'Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé," it comes after Beyoncé attended the LA premiere of Swift's 'The Eras Tour' concert film in October. Fast & Furious cast pays tribute on 10th anniversary of Paul Walker's death
Fast & Furious cast pays tribute on 10th anniversary of Paul Walker's death
The cast of the Fast & Furious franchise have been paying tribute to the late Paul Walker on the 10th anniversary of his death. The actor who played undercover police officer turned street racer Brian O'Connor in the action film series, died aged 40 in on November 30 2013 after the Porsche Carrera GT he was a passenger in crashed at a speed of more than 100mph in Los Angeles, according to a coroner's report in 2014. Walker's friend and financial adviser Roger Rodas who was driving the car also passed away from the crash. No drugs or alcohol were detected in either Walker or Rodas and both were pronounced dead at the scene, combined traumatic and thermal injuries were the cause of Walker's death, while Rodas died of multiple traumatic injuries. Walker was also known for roles in She's All That (1999), Varsity Blues (1999), Into The Blue (2005) and Joy Ride (2001). Following the success of 2001's Fast & Furious film, Walker returned to the role in 2003 for the sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious, and seven years later reprised his role once more for Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013). Most of Walker's scenes had been filmed for Furious 7 (2015) before his sudden death, but questions remained on how the film would continue. With the release date pushed back for a year, the ending was changed to pay tribute to Walker and his character which saw O'Connor retire. Archived footage of the actor from previous outtakes or shots from earlier Fast & Furious films were repurposed to complete the film, according to Screen Rant. Walker's brothers Caleb and Cody performed his scenes and their faces were replaced with CGI versions of Paul in post-production. Since Walker's death, a foundation has been set up in his honour - The Paul Walker Foundation - by his daughter Meadow Walker. For the 10th anniversary of Walker's death, Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel posted a heartwarming message along with a photo of the late actor with Diesel's daughter which he described as "one of my favourite images ever taken". "After ten years… I know these days of beautiful remembrance will be filled with tears," Diesel wrote. "But as time rolls on, with each year that passes… more smiles manage to break through the tears. Cause I know, when I see you again… our brotherhood will be stronger than we left it. Miss you." Jordana Brewster who played Walker's love interest Mia Toretto in the Fast & Furious franchise shared photos of the pair together on set - "10 years without you," she wrote in the caption. While Walker's daughter, Meadow Walker shared a sweet video of her younger self surprising her father. Before giving her a hug he says in the clip: "You just scared the hell out of me. What the hell are you doing? No way! No way!" "10 years without you… I love you forever," Meadow added in the post caption. Meanwhile, Fast & Furious fans have also been paying tribute to Walker on social media a decade on from his passing. Kiefer Sutherland's anecdote about Shane MacGowan proves what a legend he was
Following the tragic passing of Shane MacGown, an old video has resurfaced of Kiefer Sutherland telling the story of the time they met - and had a disagreement. The duo had gotten into a physical fight at a party, before three hours later, MacGowan somehow ended up in Sutherland's hotel room, sleeping on the couch. When the actor woke up, the Pogues singer had written him a 'beautiful' letter - which Sutherland has kept to this day. "Don't judge a book by its cover and very rarely trust first encounters", he said of what he'd learnt from MacGowan. Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter

Dolly Parton has a surprising connection to Keanu Reeves
Dolly Parton has a surprising connection to Keanu Reeves
Dolly Parton has spoken about her surprising connection to none other than Keanu Reeves. The legendary singer made history as the first female country artist to appear on the cover of Playboy in 1978 where she wore the iconic black bustier, bow tie and bunny ears. In a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Dolly revealed the costume was actually made by Keanu Reeves's mother costume designer Patricia Taylor. And so Dolly has some memories of little Keanu who would tag along with his mum at work. “She did a lot of sewing for me. She did a lot of my clothes,” Dolly said. “I remember Keanu when he was just little, and she would bring him over to my house when we were fitting or when I would go to the shop where she worked.” Years later, Keanu Reeves would become a household name known for films such as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Point Break, The Matrix, and John Wick and paid a visit backstage to one of Dolly's shows where he asked if she remembered him. “He said, ’Do you remember me? I’m the little boy that used to sit at your feet when my mum was [working],’” she recalled. “Of course I knew he had become a star. But it didn’t connect to me that that was who that was.” Keanu himself has spoken about his mum's working with Dolly when he appeared on Red Table Talk in 2021 where he confessed to wearing the Playboy outfit as a Halloween costume one (unspecified) year. “I put on the ears and the bustier,” he said. “I wore sneakers with fishnet stockings and the bowtie. I had some pretty long hair, and I was Dolly Parton as a Playboy Bunny.” Drew Barrymore told Dolly about Keanu’s Halloween costume, which she sounded pretty chuffed about. “Aw, that’s sweet,” she said. “He’s great. He’s the sweetest guy.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Weird Al shares shockingly low amount he makes from Spotify Wrapped
Satirical artist Weird Al has shared just how little musicians are making from Spotify - even if they're in your Wrapped's top five artists. Users received personal 'thank you' video messages from artists if they made it into their top five list, however, Weird Al used the opportunity to remind everyone that the streams don't equal cash. “It’s my understanding that I had over 80 million streams on Spotify this year, so, if I’m doing the math right that means I earned… $12", he told fans, adding he'd be using the money to buy a sandwich. Kris Jenner 'really hurt' by Kourtney Kardashian's public baby announcement
Kris Jenner 'really hurt' by Kourtney Kardashian's public baby announcement
Kris Jenner has opened up about her feelings towards Kourtney Kardashian's pregnancy announcement at Travis Barker's Blink 182 concert. Earlier this year, Kourtney made headlines for holding a sign reading 'Travis I'm Pregnant!' during his Los Angeles gig. In the finale of The Kardashians, Kris was asked whether she "enjoyed" the big reveal, to which she said "yeah". It was then that Khloe jumped in and shared that her mother had seen it on the news. The momager went on to explain the situation, saying: "We'd left the TV on the night before and woke up very early in the morning to see Kourtney holding the sign. I thought I was being punked - I was like did somebody put this up? - and then I saw it was ABC News." While Kris acknowledged she knew her daughter was pregnant, she did not expect her to announce it at the concert. Khloe claimed Kris' feelings were "really hurt," but Kourtney simply said she "forgot". "She forgot she had a family," Kris said. "That's what pregnancy brain does, it's truly wild how that happens." In another snippet, Kourtney gave her side of the story, adding: "I just truly didn't think to invite them to the LA concert and didn't think they would care to come. I did tell Khloé about it and she asked me to change it to San Diego. "[...] It's not about you. It was truly just our way to tell the world. It was about me and Travis, not about anything else." The Pogues' brutal putdown of Laurence Fox called one of Shane MacGowan's 'finest works'
The Pogues' brutal putdown of Laurence Fox called one of Shane MacGowan's 'finest works'
The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan died “peacefully” on the morning of November 30 with his wife Victoria and family at his side. A statement shared on behalf of his wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, his sister Siobhan and father, Maurice, on The Pogues’ official Instagram said: “It is with the deepest sorrow and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of SHANE MACGOWAN. “Shane died peacefully at 3am this morning (30 November, 2023) with his wife Victoria and family by his side. Prayers and the last rites were read which gave comfort to his family. “He is survived by his wife Victoria, his sister Siobhan and his father, Maurice, family and a large circle of friends. Further details will be announced shortly but the family ask for privacy at this very sad time”. Irish President Michael D Higgins said there was “particular poignancy” that the death of Shane MacGowan had followed closely that of Sinead O’Connor. He said: “Born on Christmas Day, there was perhaps some form of destiny which led Shane to writing Fairytale Of New York, the timeless quality of which will surely mean that it will be listened to every Christmas for the next century or more. “Likewise songs like Rainy Night In Soho, A Pair Of Brown Eyes, If I Should Fall From Grace With God and so many others will live on far into the years and decades to come. “I think too of Haunted, and the particular poignancy that both Shane and Sinead O’Connor have left us in such quick succession.” He added: “It was a great honour for me, as President of Ireland, to present Shane with a lifetime achievement award in the National Concert Hall in January 2018 as we marked his 60th birthday. A richly deserved honour.” Amongst those paying tribute include Nick Cave, Micheal Martin and Leo Varadkar. One person unlikely to pay tribute is the outspoken actor and commentator Laurence Fox who was once called a 'herronvolk sh**e' by The Pogues Twitter/X account after he complained about the BBC censoring a version of 'Fairytale of New York.' Although Fox has since removed his tweet, the Pogues putdown is still live, leading many to reshare it in memory of MacGowan. Additional reporting by PA. Jeremy Vine's latest on-air gaffe is textbook Alan Partridge
Jeremy Vine's latest on-air gaffe is textbook Alan Partridge
Radio presenter Jeremy Vine has given listeners perhaps the most quintessentially “Alan Partridge” moment when reading out a surprisingly morbid story on his BBC Radio 2 show. Vine, 58, was telling a tale about an eight-year-old who was boating with their family on the River Hull live on his show. While reading up to the point when the writer’s 12-year-old brother took control of the boat and drove it into a bridge, he started laughing. “I don’t know why I’m laughing,” he said. The contents of the letter, however, were about to get extremely dark. Vine, reading out the story, said: "When I was eight, my parents had a boat on the River Hull, one day it rained and the river rose, my parents let my 12-year-old brother drive the boat. “We were sunbathing on deck, I went to get a drink just as the galley caved in, because what he'd done is accelerated..." Chuckling, Vine continued: "...into Tickton Bridge... I don't know why I'm laughing....okay, this is not good. "The collision took my mum's arm off...blimey O'Riley... I didn't see that coming.” The listener wrote that they would have been "decapitated" if they had still been on the boat's deck. Jeremy ended with: "Okay...well that's slightly lowered the mood." Sharing the post on social media, one listener said: “Purest Alan Partridge moment from Vine, here. Gold.” Vine responded: "I can only apologise." Oops.
