Taylor Swift in Rio: Video of Christ the Redeemer statue with Junior Jewels shirt goes viral and then breaks Swiftie hearts

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL: Swifties in Brazil are eager to attend Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro starting November 17 and they want to welcome their pop icon uniquely.

They urged Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes to permit the projection of the singer's 'Junior Jewels' T-shirt from her 'You Belong With Me' music video onto the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue this weekend as the 'Cruel Summer' singer prepares to bring the Eras Tour to the city.

Surprisingly, the Mayor is considering the Swifties' request.

Paes wrote on X (translated from Portuguese), "Dear @taylorswift13 fans. I'm going to ask dear Father Omar to see if we can get this honor. He's the guy who runs the projections at @cristoredentor!" He even shared Father Omar's Instagram ID, "In time: His Instagram is @padreomaroficial."

Father Omar responded to the Swifties' messages through his Instagram story, saying, "@taylorswift fans, we received your comments with great joy and await contact from the singer's advisors," per USA Today.

Is it possible to project Taylor Swift's 'Junior Jewels' t-shirt on Christ the Redeemer?

Anthony Roberto Justus, who created a Brazilian fan account for the 'Shake It Off' singer, told USA Today that the request is a gesture to show how eagerly Brazil is waiting for Swift's concert.

"The idea of designing a t-shirt showcases our love of her art and shows that we are all eagerly awaiting her arrival with love," he said. "We tagged the Mayor. He saw it, and he thought it was brilliant."

Justus said that projecting images to the statue is possible if they get authorization. However, he added, "Even though the rendering is art illustrated by fans, we don't want to violate Taylor's copyright."

After the flood of requests to the Mayor and the priest, videos were circulating that had Swift's 'Junior Jewel' projected to Christ the Redeemer statue. Many are suggesting that this is a fake video.

However, the Swifties are not ready to back out, and they hope that the authorities will approve their request to honor the pop star.

The 98-foot-tall statue atop Corcovado Mountain is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The open arms of Jesus Christ symbolize peace, and for Justus, "Christ represents a point of reflection, where we find peace, and is one of the greatest beauties of our country. It's an honor to host Taylor."

Swift has three shows in Rio at the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos from November 17 to 19.

Fans hope to see the Taylor Swift projection on Christ the Redeemer

Despite the apparently fake video circulating on social media, Swifties wish to honor Swift when she lands in Rio.

Even fans are divided, with one half stating that they have seen the projection while others warning that it is only a fan edit and not real. However, everyone hopes that it turns true soon.

One user wrote on X, "Guys someone made a video edit of the junior jewels shirt projected on the christ the redeemer statue in Brazil to help manifest it happening—but it is not real (yet) so please be careful when RTing!"

Another person commented on it, writing, "Fingers crossed it will be real. The ferry wheel in São Paulo and Rio will be real and are already confirmed!"

"Omg this is an editing," commented yet another user followed by a crying face emoji.

"It's not official yet. Help us convince the priest that takes care of this projections so we can make this amazing thing for taylor," said a third comment.

Another user stated, "If this happens. It will be the biggest tribute to The Eras Tour and Taylor yet! Considering that the statue is one of the 7 wonders of the world!"
