We're overdue for a major shopping holiday, and if the past is any indication, the next big opportunity to save will be Prime Day. Amazon hasn't made any official announcements yet, but it's a good bet that Prime members will get a chance to save on a variety of devices—including laptops—in the next month or so.
If a few Prime Days have come and gone since your last laptop purchase, you may be surprised to discover how much you can get for a relatively low price. There are a variety of options hovering around the $500 range, though the real budget buys are Chromebooks, thanks to their light processor needs and cloud-centric storage. Can't wait? Here are some of the best pre-Prime Day deals for early-bird discount shoppers:

If you use your laptop for client meetings or presentations, or you use a stylus for creative projects, a touch screen is a nice way to step up your game. And if you're on Zoom calls most of the day, a high-resolution webcam will make you look much better on the other side of the screen.
Most of these laptops will come with 8GB or 16GB of RAM on board and a 256GB hard drive, which should future-proof you somewhat, though you can always add an external hard drive for more storage, if needed. While you're at it, now is also a great time to grab an adapter to bulk up the number of available USB ports, or a portable monitor so you can take your two-screen setup to the coffee shop or co-working space.
To save on Prime Day, meanwhile, you'll need to sign up for Amazon's Prime service, which runs $139 per year or $14.99 per month after a 30-day free trial . (You can always sign up for a monthly account and cancel later, if that's your thing.)
