'The Flash': Every DC character confirmed and rumored so far

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: DC is all set to rock on the year’s most anticipated superhero film, ‘The Flash’. The movie serves as a standalone film within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and is set to feature an ambitious storyline that incorporates elements of time travel and multiverse.

‘The Flash’ is directed by Andy Muschietti and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, also known as The Flash, reprising his role from previous DCEU films like ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League’. With its time-traveling narrative and exploration of the multiverse, ‘The Flash’ promises to deliver a unique and thrilling superhero experience. Fans can anticipate a blend of action, humor, and emotional moments as Barry Allen confronts personal challenges and battles formidable adversaries across different dimensions. While fans are speculating which other superhero character might feature in the movie, Andy has confirmed Ben Affleck as Batman, Michael Keaton as an alternate version of Batman from a different universe, and Sasha Calle as Supergirl will reprise their roles in the movie.

Confirmed ‘The Flash’ superheroes

Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash

When it comes to DC characters, one name that comes to mind while referring to ‘The Flash’ is Barry Allen. Despite his Scarlet Speed that everyone knows him for, the movie will follow a version of Barry who is still wrapping his head around things. The biggest arc in the movie is that he’ll go back in time to alter history to save his mother. Andy Muschietti revealed that 'Flashpoint' will be adapted, but it won’t have the same storyline exactly.

Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman

While Keaton’s return to the movie has been a key talking point, he is not the only Batman who will reprise his role. The movie will add another Dark Knight story with Ben Affleck’s Batman as a mentor figure to Barry Allen, providing guidance and support as they navigate the complexities of the multiverse. Andy reveals that Affleck’s Batman in ‘The Flash’ is a “substantial part of the emotional impact” of the film.

Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman

The drawback of Barry traveling in the past is the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman and this version of Bruce Wayne is the most anticipated one for ‘The Flash’. He portrays an alternate version of Bruce Wayne from a different universe and as a nod to his iconic work in the Tim Burton films, Keaton's return adds an exciting multiverse element to the story, showcasing different versions of the Caped Crusader.

Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl

Supergirl, another popular DC character with Kryptonian superhero powers, will make her big-screen debut in the movie. Sasha Calle takes on the role of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, the cousin of Superman. Supergirl possesses similar superhuman abilities like flight, super strength, and heat vision. Her inclusion suggests the exploration of Kryptonian mythology and introduces a powerful ally for Barry Allen in his quest. The trailer of ‘The Flash’ confirms that Supergirl will be held prisoner until Batman and Flash rescues her. Moreover, there’s a rumor as to whether Calle will remain DCU’s Supergirl since James Gunn announced ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ as a part of the upcoming DC movie slate.

Rumored comeback of Grant Gustin as Barry Allen

The entry of Ezra Miller in 2020 made him part of the Arrowverse’s multiverse during ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’. Miller and Grant Guston’s character meeting was a splendid moment and left a door open for Arrowverse and DCU to make a comeback in the future. Apparently, ‘The Flash’ is running near its end, while Arrowcerse is pretty much done outside of ‘Superman & Lois’ and it looks like all the old characters are gone for good. However, Grant Gustin’s Flash making a return in ‘The Flash’ movie will be a perfect ending as DC moves into its post-Arrowverse and DCEU era. Although it's not confirmed, it is possible that Miller’s Flash might accompany Gustin’s Flash. If this happens, it will show anything is possible with DC’s live-action multiverse and that all is connected on some level.

Each DC character will bring their unique qualities, relationships, and contributions to 'The Flash' movie, creating a tapestry of heroes, mentors, and emotional anchors that will shape Barry Allen's story and the exploration of the multiverse.
