The Tragic Life and Death of Amber Gibson: 16-yr-old's brother sentenced to life for sexually assaulting and murdering her in the woods

HAMILTON, SOUTH LANARKSHIRE: Amber Gibson's brother Connor Gibson was sentenced to life for sexually assaulting her, killing her, and then allowing another deviant to rape her dead body.

Amber had spent practically her whole life in the care system. Her parents connected online, and by the time Amber was born, there was already a history of abuse in place.

The care system failed her, and her own brother, 21, cruelly murdered her when she was only 16 years old, as per Independent.

Tragic death of Amber Gibson

In a wooded area in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, in November 2021, Amber Gibson's brother Connor stripped off her clothes, assaulted her sexually with the intention to rape her, inflicted blunt force injuries to the head and body, and strangled her.

On top of the horrifying murder, Amber continued to endure abuse even after she died as the man who discovered her body abandoned conducted horrifying acts on her remains.

She had also been raped by another man while in foster care just five months prior to the murder.

Amber died as a result of compression to the neck, according to forensic pathologists' testimony during the trial.

Amber Gibson's brother Connor sentenced

Connor Gibson was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 22 years at the High Court in Livingston on September 4.

Passing the judgment, Lord Mulholland told him, "You beat her about the head breaking her nose, removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her with intent to rape then manually strangled her. The last person she saw was you, her brother, strangling the life out of her. What you did was truly evil," as per Daily Mail.

What did Stephen Corrigan do?

Stephen Corrigan, 45, was sentenced to nine years in prison at the same court after being found guilty of trying to thwart the course of justice and disturbing the peace by touching and concealing Amber's body after finding it at some point over the course of the next two days, rather than calling the police.

Where was Amber Gibson's body found?

Amber was reported missing on November 26 in the evening, and two days later, at 10.10 am on November 28, her body was found in Cadzow Glen in Hamilton.

Connor Gibson's haunting homage to Amber Gibson

Gibson was arrested three days later, on December 1. The day before his arrest, Gibson posted a haunting homage to his slain sister on Facebook.

He wrote, "Amber, you will fly high for the rest of time. We will all miss you. Especially me. I love you ginger midget. GBFN (goodbye for now) X."

Judge Lord Mulholland, who oversaw Gibson's conviction, called the incident that took place on November 26, 2021, "depraved."

Amber Gibson remembered as a 'loving' teenager

The previous foster family of the two siblings claimed in a statement following Gibson's conviction that Amber was "the most giving, loving, supportive and admirable person" and that their lives would "never be the same again."

The family added, "She kept us on our toes and had the most amazing outlook on life considering the suffering she had experienced."

The statement went on, "When they arrived at our home - Amber aged three and Connor aged five - Connor stated: "We are safe now."

"They were until he took her safety away," the family added.

Who attacked Amber Gibson in June 2021?

Amber reportedly had nearly lived her entire life in the foster care system at the time she was murdered.

20-year-old Jamie Starrs attacked Amber in June 2021 after being freed on bail for another sex crime when Amber was under the care of the state.

Starrs, who sexually assaulted Amber five months before her big brother killed her, was sentenced to more than ten years last month after a judge dubbed his conduct "appalling."
