LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘RHOM’ star Lisa Hochstein and her ex-husband Lenny Hochstein recently became a part of the Hot Topics segment on ‘The View'. Lenny recently got engaged, which led to an Instagram family feud and not the Steve Harvey kind. As the co-hosts discussed the entanglement, Whoopi Goldberg talked about her own experience with marriage.
Goldberg has been married thrice, first to Alvin Martin, then to David Claessen, and later to Lyle Trachtenberg. Her last marriage to Trachtenberg ended in 1995 and Goldberg never got married again. As ‘The View’ co-hosts discussed the Hochstein drama, Goldberg ended the segment by sharing her experience with marriage.
‘Shut up and move on’
At the end of the Hochstein segment, Behar spoke about how divorce can make one “homicidal” after Sunny Hostin asked what the special feeling after a divorce is. After this, Alyssa Farah Griffin, who is a child of divorce, said, “It doesn’t go away quickly, at least in my experience, and you can’t let that fester and dwell or it can take you from moving on.” Before Sara Haines could properly chime in, Goldberg interrupted, “I was dancing and prancing around, I was so glad to get out of there.” Behar asked, “Every time? Every time?” To which, Goldberg confidently responded, “Every time…every time…because I always knew, I always thought – you didn’t want to do this, and you knew you didn’t want to do it, and you did it anyway, so shut up and move on.”
Behar wasn’t done with her questions for Goldberg about being married, “So why do you think you did it anyway?” Goldberg was ready with a response for her co-host as she replied, “Because I thought I could make a round hole go into a square peg. I thought that, that was what was for me.” As ‘The View’ began playing the closing music, Goldberg ended the segment, “I was never meant to be married, and I know that, and I knew that then. But I kept doing what everyone kept saying I was supposed to do. And then I was like – this is getting expensive and boring.”
‘I don’t care’
In another part of Tuesday’s segment, the co-hosts also discussed whether or not having a spouse is the ultimate goal in life. After the moderator, Goldberg herself introduced the topic to her co-hosts, she remained silent for most of the discussion. She sat at the corner of the table with her face in her hand as she listened on. All the co-hosts, who are currently married, discussed their views on said topic. Behar spoke about how it would be better to marry someone younger at her age and Goldberg finally intervened. Goldberg said, “I don’t care, but I will leave you with this.” Goldberg then ended the segment by singing ‘Falling in Love Again'.
