Spoilers for 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' Episode 3

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' has reached its halfway mark with only three more episodes left in its arsenal. There’s still plenty left to do and unpack in the future episodes but 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' Episode 3 focuses primarily on Maggie and Negan figuring out how to get to the main villain, The Croat. However, that isn’t the only interesting takeaway from this episode.

'The Walking Dead: Dead City' Episode 3 gives viewers a glimpse into Negan and Ginny’s relationship, something that has been missing in the previous episodes. It seems like 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' is still trying to find the balance between giving all major characters enough screen time but Episode 3 comes the closest to it. Also, who wouldn’t want to see Negan in dad mode?

Negan and Ginny’s heartwarming relationship

The first episode of 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' had everyone convinced that Ginny would be an important part of the whole series but Episode 2 barely gave her much screen time. Of course, the focus remains on Negan and Maggie trying to find Maggie’s son, Herschel, but the latest episode gives us a little glimpse into Negan and Ginny too. 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' Episode 3 has a little flashback where Negan goes into dad mode after Ginny almost goes missing in the woods. Since Ginny has selective mutism, she doesn’t respond to Negan’s calls, leaving him angry. Negan soon realizes that Ginny’s ‘dino’ is missing, and he goes a little soft on her.

The significance of said ‘dino’ goes beyond establishing Negan and Ginny’s relationship but it does a good job of doing so nonetheless. In this flashback, we see Negan trying his best to get Ginny to communicate with him, eventually teaching her a whistle that would help Ginny reach out to Negan. Meanwhile, the dino is in Negan’s bag, and it’s a heartwarming and light moment, especially in comparison to the rest of the episode. Dino has been slightly ripped apart, and Negan carefully fixes the toy with a bandage, keeping in mind Ginny's feelings toward it. The two also share a hug that will warm your heart, especially after you witness The Croat’s brutality in 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' Episode 3.

In the present time, Ginny has lost her stuffed toy once again as she ventures to the dead city on her own. If Negan knew, he’d be furious. As for the 'dino', it has landed in Maggie’s hands, who seemingly recognizes it as she carries it to the dumpster and is ready to light it on fire, and Ginny quietly watches from a distance. 'The Walking Dead: Dead City' Episode 3 was bound to end on a note that could drive Maggie and Negan away from each other in the following episodes, and this might be it. Nevertheless, it’s about time Ginny and Negan reunite because the little glimpses of them sharing a father-daughter-like bond were truly the ray of sunshine this series needed.
