Threads users can now opt out of having their posts show up Instagram and Facebook.
Threads users have discovered a new feature that allows you to opt out of having your posts shared on other Meta platforms, The Verge reports. The feature is live on our account, too.
To disable Threads posts from showing up on other platforms, go to your profile page within the mobile app and tap the two lines at the top right. From there, tap Privacy > Suggesting posts on other apps. From there you’ll be able to switch off the ability for your posts to be shared on Facebook, Instagram, or both.
The feature is rolling out slowly, so if you don’t see it now give it a try in a day or two.
As the Verge notes, Meta undoubtedly made the decision to share posts by default on other platforms in order to drive engagement and interest in Threads while the service was new and gaining traction. The idea being a friend of yours might see on Instagram that you’ve posted on Threads and then visit Threads for more. Testing for the feature began in August with Instagram showing Threads posts.
Last month, the company said it was “listening to feedback” from users who didn’t want their posts shared on Instagram and Twitter as well. The company offers a similar setting option on Instagram allowing you to opt in or out of sharing your posts on Facebook as well.
