LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Today' host Al Roker, who loves to keep his fans updated about his whereabouts, recently gave a glimpse of the backstage mayhem that takes place on the set of the NBC TV show by posting a behind-the-scenes video.
The 68-year-old journalist took to his Instagram to share a clip featuring the 'Today' crew rearranging the set in a time constraint. It wasn’t the first time Roker had shared something like this from NBC studio, as earlier last week, he posted a similar video from the studio, capturing his co-host Dylan Dreyer and Jacob Soboroff.
Backstage mayhem on 'Today' show
Roker gave his fans a peek at a moment where the crew was seen rearranging the set of the TV show during a commercial break. In the video, Roker explained as he captured the studio, "We have two minutes, our stagehands have two minutes to change over our set." He also pointed out the usual location of the show's crescent-shaped couch and informed everyone that it had to be relocated for an upcoming musical performance.
Later, he was seen guiding the stage managers as they announced a one-minute timeframe to complete the set switch. Roker then shifted his focus to fellow hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie. A production assistant was observed distributing scripts to them while Roker reiterated, "This is all in two minutes. It is an amazing dance and choreography that goes on." As the countdown reached the 30-second mark, the video displayed everyone making final adjustments to the set, with Kotb, Guthrie, and Carson Daly taking their seats on the couch. Guthrie was heard asking Roker, "Are you live streaming?" to which he responded, "Live streaming! Just like to show people what happens in between."
Al Roker backed Savannah Guthrie after Craig Melvin's eye roll
During one of the recent episodes of the 'Today' show, while the cameras were rolling, Roker noticed that Craig Melvin rolled his eyes at a joke made by his fellow host, Savannah Guthrie. The moment occurred during the show's Food segment when author Alison Roman was demonstrating how to make a summer shortcake. While preparing the dough, Roman advised against over-kneading, prompting Guthrie to playfully remark, "Don't be kneady!" Surprisingly, Roman responded by claiming it was her joke.
Guthrie then glanced at her co-hosts, including Roker, Melvin, Kotb, and Daly, who were all enjoying their plates of food at an adjacent table. Observing Melvin’s reaction, Guthrie humorously remarked, "Craig is rolling his eyes at me, and I don't blame you." Soon, Roker, donning a fedora and a blue suit, stepped in to support her, saying, "You own it!" Grateful for Roker's backing, Guthrie thanked him before continuing with the segment.
