NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ hosts Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer were missing from the NBC show ahead of their appearance at the Bottoms Up event in Connecticut. The hosts were replaced by Ally Love during the ‘Today 3rd Hour’ segment.

On Monday, September 25, 2023, the hosts skipped half of the ‘Today 3rd Hour’. The present anchors explained their co-hosts' whereabouts during the segment.

‘Today’ contributor Ally Love joined in Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones for the ‘3rd Hour’ segment.

Roker, the 69-year-old meteorologist, returned to the ‘Today’ show on Monday after on a week's hiatus for his anniversary with his wife Deborah Roberts and the latter’s 63rd birthday. He was reportedly vacationing in Italy with Roberts.

Where are Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer?

On Monday's ‘Today 3rd Hour’ segment, Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones kicked off the segment by welcoming Ally Love for the segment.

Roker said, “Good Monday morning, and welcome to the Third Hour of Today.”

He continued, “Sheinelle is here, and we've got our Today show contributor, and Peloton superstar, Ally Love, is here, spending the morning. We're so thrilled to have you with us.”

The weather reporter then explained that Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer were out as they “took part in a great event.”

Around 10 minutes into the show, Roker returned to the location where Dreyer and Melvin were, emphasizing that they were participating "at a great event for a cause that is so close to Craig's heart."

The hosts, along with Carson Daly and Melvin’s wife, gathered in Connecticut for the event.

Melvin explained that the cause was particularly meaningful to him due to his personal experiences as his brother was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at 39 and died four years later.

Additionally, his wife Lindsay's father was diagnosed in 2011 but was fortunate to survive.

Melvin emphasized that the funds raised from these events contribute to raising awareness, providing test kits, and supporting advocacy efforts related to the disease.

Melvin mentioned that they had recently held a benefit concert, during which they successfully raised $1.2 million for their cause.

However, it is currently unclear when Melvin, Dreyer, and Daly will be returning to the studio.

Craig Melvin’s new assignment

Last Tuesday, ‘Today’ Craig Melvin was absent as he was on an assignment and was replaced by Joe Fryer.

Fryer joined Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones at the desk and was welcomed by Dreyer who said, “Good morning, everyone. Welcome to the Third Hour of Today. I'm Dylan, along with Sheinelle, and our friend, Joe Fryer.”

Meanwhile, Paul Rigney, an NBC News photographer based in Pittsburgh, captured candid shots of Melvin during his assignment.

He shared these photos on social media with the caption, "Fun shoot in town today!"

The images show Melvin engaging with players and individuals at the Pittsburgh Steelers stadium while the game continues in the background.

Paul can be seen in the background photographing Melvin during a segment. In another shot, Melvin is inside a building with his arms folded.

The picture prominently featured a clapboard with the names of Melvin and Ava DeMarco, the co-founder of Little Earth Productions.

The clapboard also displayed the words, "NBC Today Terrible Towel," indicating the focus of their segment or shoot.
