NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ hosts recently celebrated a major change to the NBC show as they switched some things up. The daily morning show hosts welcomed Laura Jarrett who will be soon joining the weekend news desk.

On Saturday, September 9, ‘Today’ producers revamped the weekend morning show desk following the departure of Kristen Welker.

The morning program made an unexpected step and hired a new main co-anchor Jarrett for her "tireless reporting."

Jarrett is a senior legal correspondent for NBC News and will be co-anchoring the Saturday broadcast of the ‘Today’ show. She will be taking on her role alongside Peter Alexander and Joe Fryer.

Hoda Kotb, a longtime anchor of the ‘Today’ show playfully hinted that September marked "new beginnings" and that they were celebrating one during the Friday's episode.

Her co-host, Savannah Guthrie, spilled the news, revealing that Laura Jarrett would be joining Peter Alexander on Saturday's edition of ‘Today’.

Guthrie also mentioned that Jarrett would be relocating to New York City for her new role as Alexander’s co-anchor on weekends.

In celebration of Jarrett’s promotion, morning show reporter Dylan Dreyer who was absent during the segment, surprised her co-hosts with freshly poured glasses of champagne.

Dreyer began by presenting Jarrett and Alexander with their drinks and followed up with individual gifts for both weekend TV hosts.

Later, Dreyer extended the celebratory gesture to Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Guthrie, and Kotb, handing them each a glass of champagne and she insisted on getting one herself.

With glasses in hand, Kotb initiated a toast, encouraging everyone to "raise a glass." In unison, they clinked their glasses, celebrating what Melvin called "the new chapter."

Laura Jarrett’s major career move

Earlier last month, it was revealed that Laura Jarrett will be co-hosting both ‘Saturday Today’ and ‘NBC News Saturday’.

In this significant transition, Jarrett will be based in New York City for the weekend edition of ‘Today’, after it had been hosted from Washington DC for the past two years.

Libby Leist, the Executive Vice President of 'Today', shared her excitement, stating, "In her first months at NBC News, Laura has quickly made her mark with tireless reporting, sharp legal insight, and powerful storytelling."

Further adding, "Not only is she a terrific journalist, but she's also a wonderful colleague. We can't wait to officially welcome her to 'Saturday TODAY.'"

Additionally, it was recently announced that Kristen Welker who had been co-hosting the weekend desk of ‘Today’, has taken on a new role as the moderator of ‘Meet The Press’.
