The U.S. Open is in the books and before the golf world starts to focus on the final major of the season, the Open Championship, we have to get through the final "designated" event of the season, the Travelers Championship.
In this article, I'm going to power rank the top 10 golfers in the field, based on my personal opinion as well as their betting odds.
Let's jump into it.
Travelers Championship power rankings
1) Scottie Scheffler +650
Scottie Scheffler hasn't won since The Players Championship in March, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be the top ranked golfer in anyone's power rankings. He has finished in the top three in three straight events and his ball striking continues to be the best in the world.
He hasn't finished worse than T12 since the CJ Cup last October.
2) Jon Rahm +900
I hesitated putting Jon Rahm in the No. 2 spot. I don't think I'd bet on him at +900, but he probably still deserves the No. 2 spot in the power rankings. He's coming off a 10th place finish at the US Open and he can go off at any time to collect yet another win.
3) Rory McIlroy +900
There's no doubt that Rory McIlroy's game is trending in the right direction, and without the pressure of a major, it might be time for him to get another win on the PGA Tour. He has four straights top 10 finishes and he finished 19th at this event last season.
4) Xander Schauffele +1400
It's hard to not respect the defending champion at this event, especially with how well he has played this season. A weekend collapse cost him a chance at the US Open, but now he gets to go back to an event he knows he can win.
5) Collin Morikawa +2500
Collin Morikawa's game is trending in the right direction and the back spasms that caused him to withdraw a few weeks ago seems to be a non issue now. His ball striking is still some of the best in the world and if/when his short game gets hot, few golfers on Tour are better.
6) Viktor Hovland +1600
Viktor Hovland was a popular pick at the US Open, but he failed to live up to expectations. With that being said, he won The Memorial and has an 11th place finish at the Travelers Championship in 2020. He's still in good enough form to get another win this week.
7) Patrick Cantlay +1200
I still don't understand why Patrick Cantlay keeps getting priced at these types of numbers. He has finished 21st, 9th, 30th, and 14th in his last four starts. Solid results but nothing to write home about. If there's one thing that's going for him it's that he has finished 15th or better at this event in five straight years.
8) Matt Fitzpatrick +2500
Matt Fitzpatrick is another golfer that seems to be trending in the right direction after struggling with his irons early in the season. His lack of course history does seem to be cause for concern this week.
9) Rickie Fowler +3300
Sure, Rickie Fowler has yet to win this season and he collapsed on Sunday at the U.S. Open. With that being said, he has three straight top 10 finishes and continues to be extremely consistent this season. If he keeps up this level of play, he'll get a win eventually.
10) Tommy Fleetwood +3300
Tommy Fleetwood has quietly been playing fantastic golf, racking up three top five finishes over his last five starts. He also snuck into a back door top 5 at the US Open last week. He's a solid bet at 33/1 this week.
