Tribes of Midgard Season 3 Release Date Announced, New Features to Follow

Tribes of Midgard Season 3 officially has a release date with developers teasing some of the new features launching this August.

Things are heating up for Tribes of Midgard (ToM) fans. The game's third season, the Inferno Saga, will be hitting the live game within the next month — taking players on an explosive journey up to the Volcanic Spire to take on the game's largest Saga boss to date. They'll need to unlock a gateway to a brand new biome, put down their fiery foe erupting from the land, and stop the Inferno invasion before it can scorch the lands of Midgard.

Einherjar may want to leave their furs at home for this one.

When Does Tribes of Midgard Season 3 Launch?

Tribes of Midgard's Season 3 officially launches on Aug. 16. It is a free content update for all players on PC and console so unless fans are purchasing Golden Horns or cosmetics from the in-game shop, they need not worry about a price tag.

Once downloaded, all players will have access to the game's new features such as fishing, new Crafting mechanics, Survival Mode, new Spear weapons, and, of course, a brand new terrain with corresponding Saga Quest.

ToM Season 3 Features Fishing, Spears, New Mode, and More

It goes without saying that the largest draw of each Saga season is the boss at the end of the trail. This time, players will be venturing not to the lair of a beast already within Midgard, but into another biome where their incendiary foe lies waiting. By gathering up Muspelite — a clear reference to Muspelheim, the realm of fire — brave Einherjar can open the gateway to the Volcanic Spire and "stomp out the flames" of this boss' Midgard conquest.

What better way to battle a new boss than with a new weapon? Season 3 will be introducing spears for the very first time. Popular among Vikings partially for their ease of crafting, spears offer a great deal of reach in "a more linear direction than other weapons." Spears in ToM remain true to their roots with the only material needed to craft them being wood.

Season 2 introduced swimming to Einherjar hoping to make their way to the lair of Jörmungandr, providing another use for the rivers and seas that divide Midgard aside from a watery grave. Now, Season 3 has expanded on this once again by allowing players to fish. By crafting a Fishing Rod and keeping their eyes out for Mysterious Ripples, players can cast a line and test their reflexes with the all-new Fishing mechanic.

Season 3 has revamped the way players will engage with Survival, as well, providing a more relaxed experience while encouraging "exploration and creation." Now, Survival is actually set long before the village from Saga Mode was set up, leaving the Einherjar entirely on their own in the wilderness — well, except for their guide, Eira Foot-Crushed, and Freyja's faithful feline duo Mániklo and Sóleyra.

Jötnar attacks are a thing of the past in Inferno Saga's Survival, allowing players to "write legendary Viking tales of their own, building their perfect Viking homes, and taking the battle directly to enemies as they see fit."

This is also where a new source of Crafting comes in. Since they're without villagers or vendors, the Einherjar will have to take advantage of the Allforge, a Dwarven invention that lets them to kickstart their crafting. It can be found in the Build menu and instantly placed anywhere without the need for resources. Here, players can use it to build whatever crafting stations they require and repair their gear as needed.

More information about Tribes of Midgard can be found on its website. New players can purchase the game on the Microsoft Store, Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store for $19.99.
