Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill insisted he had no beef with cornerback Eli Apple, but couldn't help but take a playful shot at his new teammate.
The new big rivalry in the NFL has been between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals, especially after their meetings in the past two AFC Championship Games. One of the big pieces of the rivalry that received the most attention was between wide receiver Tyreek Hill and cornerback Eli Apple, both of whom exchanged words with one another on Twitter after the 2021 AFC Championship Game. Last year, Hill was traded to the Miami Dolphins. One year later, Apple signed on with the Dolphins as well.
The fact that the two rivals were on the same team garnered a bunch of attention. But on Friday during team training camp, Hill said that there is no beef between himself and Apple.
"Well, when I heard about it, coach had called me," Hill said, h/t NFL.com. "He was like, 'Hey, Reek, we finna sign somebody.' I was like, 'Who y'all finna sign?' He was like, 'We finna sign Eli Apple.' I was like, 'Aight, cool.' He was like, 'You ain't got a problem with that?' I was like, 'Nah, I ain't got no problem with that. Why would I have a problem with that?' So I just feel like a lot of people, it just get fed into what's going on in social media, and that's not really what it is. I was fired up for us to be able to add another competitor to this team because that makes us better in the long run, having that cornerback depth. Eli, he's a great guy. I know we had some battles, but at the end of the day, man, we're all trying to win. We're all trying to get better."
Tyreek Hill downplays beef with Eli Apple but still takes a playful shot at new Dolphins teammate
While Hill said that the two are good and are looking to help the Dolphins win, Hill did joke that he's looking forward to facing off against him in training camp.
"And now, my looking from it is now I get to embarrass him every day," Hill said, h/t NFL.com.
Back in the 2021 season, the Bengals defeated the Chiefs 23-20 in overtime to clinch their spot in Super Bowl 56. After the game, Apple took to Twitter to troll the Chiefs and Hill, whom he called "a baby."
Last season, Hill sent a message to Apple ahead of the Dolphins vs. Bengals game. That message was "I owe you." However, Apple and the Bengals got the last laugh, as they defeated the Dolphins 27-15.
Apple signed with the Dolphins after their offseason trade acquisition, Jalen Ramsey, suffered a meniscus injury. Hill responded to the news on Twitter, saying that practice against him will be "fun."
There's no beef at all between Hill and Apple, but the wide receiver couldn't help but take a shot at the cornerback.
